California - Northern

ok, i now officially have an overabundance of eggs for my broody girls, thanks to chiqita and deann and molly -- bowled over by your generosity, all three of you! and now faced with The Decision -- the two who went broody over the weekend are snuggled into a nest box together, sitting on some mutt & fake eggs. my choices are:

a) move one tonight to a pen that i can close, & hope that she settles in to her new digs, or

b) maybe wait another day & see if they are sharing the box without trouble, & then just let them co-brood?

they'd be getting their eggs at the same time, so should all hatch at once... not sure what's the best approach? any thoughts?

thanks!!

Oh my gosh....4 eggs are pipping now! And the cheeping is getting louder! This is crazy sauce!

It is always exciting!

4 pips! cheeps! so exciting!

small update from here: i just checked underneath the two nestbox-sharing broodies, and the australorp has ALL the eggs, while the CCL is just hanging out hopefully, so perhaps i'd better move her. wish me luck!!

My head exploded because I could feel the pressure you have been under.
Just let me know how it goes.....I bet they start tomorrow.

Just keep in mind I haven't looked to see how many girls to boys in there yet. I know....slacker..... I have seen 5 boys, so you would either have to keep a bachelor pen, or process the extra males, or all of the males for that matter, don't really need them unless you want to make more babies. OR, sell the extra boys on CL.

Just let me know.
