LOLOLOL I sometimes feel like I am making sweet love to a stump.... OH WAIT! Wrong forum!

I LOVE the Poof, and I would "fix it" so they can see! Kind of a punk rock look!
THAT WHITE ONE! THAT's EXACTLY the one! Who doesn't need a cotton ball in their yard? That top one looks suspiciously like a rooster though..... Are the Silkies just as loud as large fowl roosters?

Yay! I have two go to ladies for poofy chickens!
The beards that stick up from the bottom are the worst for sight. have to see down! the "what?? what?? what?? thing for silkies is cute however. ( warning! cottonballs get DIRTY in the yard! I have to wash my white showgirls behind regularly, shes not a fan)
I came home and found the hatcher off! Two pipped egg too. An inline fuse was blown so there may have been a power surge.

I will check in a bit to see if the chicks are a alive.

Very sad....
Those things hold heat, its only been 8 hrs they will make it! Ron, for crazy people like you, mario found a chip temp thing that will email you if tepms go wrong.. Or I think thats what it did... I almost got it. want me to see if he can find it again? I'm SURE you have wifi. he is onsite today so I can ask him tonight.

I have these two. They aren't as poofy though.... One has a beard, and one doesn't. The grey one has been broody for 6 weeks!! That can't be normal...

Silkies will sit on a pile of rocks for months.. find someone who wants their chicks raised and rent her out!

Hi all - newbie who finally found my way to this thread!  Looking for people in the Elk grove/Sacramento area.  We are "city-folk" in suburbia working on a new backyard flock.

Welcome to the thread..............I'm in the Placerville area

Pam, I lost my multi quote........................the deer here are so aggressive, they have started coming up onto our elevated deck and eating fuchias from the hanging baskets.  I think they'd LOVE some of your lettuce, I know I would but I'd have to use wire cages on the barrel.

We have very expensive, 12 ft deer fencing around the garden because the deer threw after hour parties in our garden and when I tried to run then off, I swear I heard them laugh at me and my pajama choice...and they wouldn't let me play any reindeer games...oh wait, that was the winter guys! ;d

My lettuce is on my deck on the 2nd story (our living area is upstairs to take in the view). So far they haven't climbed the stairs but when I drive in the driveway in the evenings and the deer don't even get up and run off you know they're too comfortable.

I have friends that have a good 4-5 stairs to the deck and they still come up to feed. I try to remind myself that they were here first.

Does anyone have poofy bearded Silkies? (poofy is the technical term)
poofy woofie

I couldn't take the time to research so thanks for looking. I am at work ya know!

I did not see an air cell above the veined area. I am just scratching my head. I thought everyone here might know for sure! But alas, I am left with the unknown. Enquiring minds want to know..... ya know! Anyone remember that rag magazine? Was one of my mom's favorites!
I have drawn a line on the eggs with that development so I can see if it is expanding and so I can tell if they hatch. :) Cpartist's packaging was great and the color was great and the pictures of her chickens were lovely.

I really appreciate the offer for more Roosters!

But I am not supposed to have them. I would hate to have one get me in trouble and be caught with more than the allotted 6 hens. Because you KNOW there is no such thing as ONLY 6 hens.
That is to bad! I love the roosters best and the wheaten and blue wheaten roosters are beautiful!

When are they due to hatch?

I have poofballs too - but mine are gonna be separated into fuzzy faces and shaved (non-bearded). I like their intelligent looking faces. No cottonballs here though, I love the Partridge coloring (like that rooster). Not a supply chain over here - I need to build up my hen stock...

There is a really good dealer um.. pusher um.. seller in Lincoln too - Sherri sells wonderful fuzzballs of all ages and colors..

My silkies aren't nearly as loud as my other roosters.. and my bantam rooster is louder than the LF roosters because of the carrying power of the higher crow. I have a new boy who has a muted crow - I love it..

Another thing I love about the Silkie Roosters - they all have been gentlemen so far. Very nice to me (no aggression unless their ladies are squacking) and nice to their ladies too. I haven't tried them with chicks yet but that will be coming - I understand they will even babysit the babies!

I have an almost 11 week old, lovely Olive Egger Cockerel, who needs a new home. His mother is a black Ameracuana, and the father is double laced blue Barnevelder. He was solid black but now, growing deep mahogany feathers on his neck and saddle. In the sun, his feathers give out flashes of blue, green, and purple irridescent colours. He is very friendly, and adorable. He is free of charge to a good home where he will have a chance to live his life, and not be processed. Please PM me if you are interested. I live in Sonoma Co.
Photos below were taken at 6 wks. of age.

, he bites! DH hates to even go in the pen. He has drawn blood on both of us. He bites so hard, he will hang from your skin and you have to pry his beak open. He also runs around trying to bite everyone in the pen.

I think next processing day, I might find out the purported medicinal qualities of black chicken. He is a gorgeous boy, but meaner than snot. Well, as mean as a 2 pound chicken with feathers in his eyes can be.
