I dont like the foam. its hard to get the eggs out lol

I agree--the best method has been Meeks method burrito wrapping in double boxes. I have been delivered a box that looked like a fork lift had gone into the side and all the eggs were fine.

Popping the eggs up, with the large end at the top helped the eggs come out easily.

I am so lucky to have this girl! I seriously love her! Thank you Chiqita for bringing her out for me to see. I almost didn't bring her home...I thought she was a boy...but I was wrong.
Check out her waddles, and for the record, she squatted for me today.

Wow!

Did you name her Phyllis Diller?

So very cute!

Anyone ever have a chick whose feathers grew wrong? The right wing of my Light Brahma...looks perfectly fine...

The left wing..The feathers are pointing downwards at the tip. Anyone seen this before??(click on picture to see bigger image)

The feathers look bent.

Yes, but why would they be growing like that??

Sorry, can't answer that. I've never seen anything like it. It's certainly not frizzled, they curl up and it's a curve. Like I said, that looks bent. And it's only one wing? Very strange. Are you sure there is no way they were bent, by someone or on something in the brooder? Maybe the chick somehow was trapped by the wire?

BCollie, I've had a couple of chicks that had bent/twisted feathers. They were chicks that had a hard time getting out of the shell and had a little shrink wrap issues. When the new feathers grew in they were normal. Hope your little one follows suit.

Nope, the wire is way out of her reach, it's used to cover the top of the brooder. The chicks already THINK they can fly, so they've been jumping and flapping those little wings...But the highest one has ever jumped is halfway up. Yep, only the one wing. And all of my other chicks have normal wing feathers.

Maybe that's what it is. I'm not really worried about it - as long as it doesn't affect their quality of life (which I know a few bent feathers won't) then it doesn't matter to me :) I was just curious about it.

EDIT:

I have noticed that my other Light Brahma has two toes that are fused together. Is this something that needs to be fixed? Or will she be just fine with her toes like this for the rest of her life?

The Dick Horstman eggs came packed it foam the foam protected most of the eggs but 4 did break.

The eggs have PR, SPR and nothing on them, so they should be PR, SPR and RIR eggs.

they look so snug -- and just have to add, i was enormously impressed with Stacey from Thistledown Farms' packaging of her marans and SFH eggs that i received this week -- apologies for not taking a photograph, but she wrapped each egg in a folded paper towel, snugged them into two half-cartons that were then tapped shut, put those inside a box with lots of bubble wrap bubbles, and then put that box inside ANOTHER, larger box, packed in with newspapers. not a single egg broke.
