My California Greys and EEs have been roosting on top of the water for almost a week. Last weekend I had to put the lids on the brooders because one of my EEs kept flying out and marooning herself. Bricks work great for elevating things ABL (Above Butt Level) the chicks can hop up on the bricks to reach.

Curly is not such a great hopper so she has a small waterer at floor level so she can reach it but the rest of them stand in it, poop in it, roost on its edge and fill it with crumbles and shavings so I have to refill it multiple times a day.
I use bricks for the waterers and extra 2 x 4's for the long feeders. I also have a piece of chicken wire rolled up that fits on top of the waterer to keep them from standing on top and pooping in the water. I planned on buying funnels or something to attach to the bottom of the mason jars (top of the waterers) but I had the chicken wire scrap handy and I'm still using it.

My broody English Orp thinks she fits in this nest box. There are 2 larger boxes above her. I've been trying to get a picture of her facing out for a week now, but she's not cooperating. Her eggs are due to hatch on the 16th.

This is cute...maybe she has ADD is is shutting off all distractions so she doesn't forget what she is supposed to be about

I love all these broody pixtures! So cute!

My chicks are currently enjoying their first outdoors playtime! We have an old dog pen that we set up, put all the chicks in there. They've been running, pecking, scratching, sunbathing...they're having a lot of fun! It's so cute to watch them try to fly, they can get up quite a ways!!

There was a Blue Jay that flew overhead and landed in a tree to watch my chicks, as soon as they saw it they all stopped and stood perfectly still...Of course, I got up and chased after it, yelling and waving my arms, and it didn't dare come back into my yard after that.

I think it's more that she knows it's harder for me to check the eggs that way. If you have ever had an English Orp, then you know how nasty their butts can get.

Luckily, she had a rear trim before the broody poop started coming.

My Daughters found a project--Someone put up a You Tube video with instructions for making Stargate SG1 Worm hole cookies. Of course we had to make them.

To be authentic, Blue Jolly Ranchers are used but we did not want to be limited to blue.

To make, use Butter cookie or sugar cookie dough--either home made or store bought.

Use a big cutter for the outer ring and a smaller one for the center.

Crush the jolly rancher candies--we used double sandwich bags and the flat part of a meat tenderizer. Use a cookie sheet with parchment paper--fill the hole with the cracked candy and bake at 350 for around 12 min. Depending on the cookie recipe and oven, the time could be shorter or longer.

Very fun project!
NO WAY!!!! My dh was so upset when the series ended! (more like had a fit) We bought him quite a few of the seasons in dvd to make him feel better. This will totally earn my coop building points. Ron you are amazing!

It is time to start searching the Game of Thrones Cook Book for Sunday's episode....
I would think the jolly ranchers would stick to the cookie sheet! Ron, you have too much spare time!

The cookies come right off--after they cool-- if the cookie sheet is lined with parchment paper.

My Middle and youngest daughters did the baking. I did have to go get the Jolly Ranchers....
