California - Northern

Plank passes Friday night. She had enjoyed an extra month in the sun and seemed content until the last day or so.

I was going to send her in to davis but she would be quite old then and I'm thinking I should just bury her. No one else had masses so I don't know that I would learn anything useful from it.

Rip little plank, she who love to sunbath while completely rigid and freak me out.
So sorry for your loss!

The 6th are hatching now. So the 7should start tomorrow and the 8th tuse/ wed. There are a few marans that are different stock ( some of those are mine too however!)
When are they due to hatch??? I wouldn't be able to pick them up until Tues or later. DH has a long weekend and Monet is in Oregon with one of my adult daughters & family. We are trying to finish up the quail/brooder pen as well as re-work our aviary. I know that he would not be interested in taking a road trip with me to San Jose!

A week ago, I had a full incubator with 30 shipped Langshan eggs and 4 eggs from my birds at the farm. None of the Langshan eggs developed and 3 out of my 4 eggs went into lockdown. 2 Bresse chicks hatched today but the Langshan egg pipped early this morning and has not done a thing since then. It had some liquid come out of the pip site so it may have died before zipping. I am giving it until tomorrow morning and then I'll break a little more of the shell. Anyway, I only have 2 chicks and I am looking for a few more to keep them company. I am doing a staggered hatch so there are more Bresse and Langshan eggs that will hopefully hatch in a couple more weeks. Does anyone have any brand new chicks that they are selling or any due to hatch in the next 2 or 3 days? I'm really not that picky about breed as long as they are large fowl.

I have two day old Horstman RIRs.

Hmmm... your chicks are so sweet! I love the ones that I got from you in Feb and the seven that hatched from your chickens' eggs! I could pick up quail and chicks at the same time!

my condolences!! sounds like she was a lovely girl...

I culled the little silver chick yesterday. Now I have 4. as long as I have a few hens in there I am ok. Today I move the black penedesenca and the easter eggers to the new run. My coop is not ready yet so I will have to put a temp. setup in there till next week. They are all just growing so fast there current setups are not working. Plus I have to move the u of a / Ron's black pene rooster he gave me and some empordanesa to a bigger setup. looking forward to it though as It will make it so there is one less run/area to feed and water in the morning. Only half my new run is covered however which is somewhat concerning up here as I ran out of poultry netting half way through

pictures WILL follow once all are situated

Ooooh! Now you are tempting me! Maybe I could just take a day and drive around N. CA picking up chicks!
Tomorrow is drop day for Azure--I will be traveling to Vacaville probably around 4pm.
