Here is my little SFH I got from Deanne. I was afraid that by picking the prettiest one I was also picking a little boy and I was right. Anyone want him? He is beautiful

AND!!!! I think he is showing signs of a crest!
I guess the males have to have some redeeming qualities right? You know so they don't all end up on the table. The males of the Wheaten Ameraucana's I have are already so pretty at 5 1/2 weeks.

So disappointed. I got some shipped OEs and started with 18. Now I have 8 just went into lockdown and that's just because I can't see through them. All the rest had scrambled, rolling air cells, clear, and I haven't found development in any of them. Guess ill just hope :) and if none hatch, I'll make my own lol. Also have my barnevelders from Trisha in this hatch and they look wonderful! She sent like 20 and I bought 12! There are 13 in lockdown and they look great :) excited there is a way to sex them too.

Sorry about your OEs I got a beauty from Deanne...she's the reason I got the SFH. he is her same sized buddy but they don't hang out. She hangs with the Porking and the SFH is all over the place. He reminds me of boys I have had in class who are incapable of sitting still. The little OE though is very placid.

Thanks Ali. As the Croc hunter would have said "Crikey he's a beauty." Too bad I can't keep him

So are you saying they aren't crazy about the fermented feed? I was thinking that everyone was saying that their birds go crazy for it, and that it cuts their feed bill way down....?

Maybe the fermenting isn't worth it and I will just try the soaking thing.....

What do you think? I do know they like the sprouts I have been growing for them.
Well, mine are crazy about almost everything other than their food, fermented or not. Most of them take a few bites of the FF in the morning and then go on to eating the whole grains. They forage the backyard for the rest of the day and are currently cleaning out my spring garden which consists of the left over remains of radishes, kale, bok choy, arugala, and crab grass. I rarely see them at the feeders but the food slowly goes down so they must be eating it. I have 2 feeders in the coop itself and I would guess that they eat the pellets in the morning before I let them out. The fermented feed is almost always completely gone by the time evening comes. I plan on continuing to ferment their feed because it improves the nutritive value and also gives them probiotics.

The price is if you bulk buy--He bought a bunch of 50# bags. I will be able to share with him but he wants to make sure they can keep getting the King feed. I hope so--it is a great price!
So it's a private person who bought in bulk or is it a feed store? That is a great price! I wish that King would come out with a Freedom flock raiser, too!

Can I turn out the light in the coop? Our lows overnight are between 51-61. There are 22 in there right now youngest are the OE and the SFH who will be 5 weeks old this weekend and the oldest will be 6 weeks tomorrow. Daytime highs in the 80s to 100+ over the next couple of weeks.

With the heat being so nasty up in the foothills this early my English Orpinton and brahma and a couple others have been panting on and off. How hot are they when they pant.. like heat stroke hot? I've been watering down the course sand in the run trying to keep they cool, but I'm not home most of the day so I worry about them while I'm at work. Should I invest in a mister? Elecrolytes in their water?

Jeremy is the Egg Farmer that I am working with. He bought a pickup full of feed! It was amazing to see.

You can turn the heat off if they are fully feathered.
