Well, I will take roosters back.  Most people won't process  and I get to look at and evaluate my Marans boys.    But I don't give them hens.  This is the first year I have had any sexed anything so there has been some confusion.

Speaking of roosters Molly, do you know who are boys on your jubs yet? Dh looked at me like I was crazy  when I said we were bringing IN a roo, lol.

Mario tried to rewire while sleepy last night (  wire undid and was not heating) and appearently blew the new unit. Thank goodness they are so cheap.   But no new incubator for me till  later in the week!

Is Jub short for jubilees? I have a blue orp from Molly that has the jubilee genes in him. He's gorgeous. Ironically he's the most flighty (if you catch him be will let you hold him and pet him) ou of our four boys. I wonder if there's a good method to gaining chicken trust. 8/10 I our chickens will come over and hop in our laps want to be pet.

In chicken news here Curly has devised a way of getting around that seems to work for him. He flies/scoots generally in the direction he wants to go. Spends a lot of time laying in the sun or shade depending on what he wants and, I have no idea how, but he gets himself up the ramp (6 inches wide) and into the coop which is 2 feet off the ground at night. If he were with full grown hens I might think they were tucking him under their wings and carrying him up there but he's in with 7 and 8 week olds. Almost worth investing in a video baby monitor. He is the opposite of coordinated so I'm fairly certain he must fall off a time or two but for the last four nights when I have gone out to put everyone to bed he is in there. Everyone else is roosting and he is in his nesting box all tucked in.

Had the nicest coop time yesterday with the little ones. I took canned corn in and sat with them. Willa is my shyest and she wouldn't take it from my hand but for once didn't grab and bolt and even pecked at my toenails a bit. Godiva the chocolate rock and Rosie one of the EEs bot took turns laying on my lap of their own volition letting me pat them. I honestly have come to believe that treatment centers, jails and long term care facilities of all kinds should have coops. It just stinking makes a person happy to hold a warm feathery thing and to watch them interact with people and each other. If I were running for Miss America it would be my platform

"Chickens for Wellness" I don't think you can be a married mother of 3 and still run though.

My colleague that took my cockerels is looking for a Cuckoo Marans breeder. Not sure but think he may be interested in other color varieties as well. Any of you have them??

Glad Curly is getting around on his own. I had a Hobbles that I re-homed when I sold some other Silkie chicks - he did the same thing - flew if he wanted to go faster. He grew more slowly than the other chicks, I am thinking it was because he was using his energy to get around instead of getting bigger.

I have one chicks with a very bad crooked beak - he/she eats the fermented feed with the others and is growing the same speed - so that's what I would try with the mis-aligned beak one. Wet food is easier to dig up and eat.

Chicken time is some of my favorite time. That, and Chick TV. Was watching mom feed the chicks this morning, just love it. I have 4 more brand new babies in the Silkie coop - they are just the cutest things.

I do know of a person on the Silkie thread that has a Silkie Lap Chicken that she uses for therapy. It works great, just like you said. Holding a soft fuzzy/feathery living creature does give u a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

I think they have chickens in some prisons - but I think those are just meat/egg birds - not pets

hello everyone I'm from Modesto California .and Sacramento can be considered North if you break California up into three .north California, Central California and Southern California .I'm represent Central (209).but if you go south of Fresno there are two trees a pine tree any palm tree right in the middle of highway 99 .the side of the pine tree is north the side of the palm tree is south.you should look for the next time anyone drive by

California is an amazing State.

My Department took a tour of Campus and were told that the landscaping on the UCD Campus represents the vegetation of California. The Southern part has more desert types of plants and them moves north to the Redwoods. There are a lot of Native plants here on campus.

Agreed! We love our chicken therapy time! Come home from work and drag our camp chairs into the run and just watch and pet and love on the flock. I never imagined that chickens could be so sweet, cuddly or smart!

We currently have 10. Six pullets and four roosters. Love them all! They are our first ever chickens.













Ellie & Emma ( Ameraucana ), Brawny & Blu ( Jubilees rooster x blue or splash English Orpingtons) and Speckles and Olive the Olive Eggers (Blue or splash maran hen X blue Isbar rooster) and Babs, our Light Brahma.

Scratcher & Cuckoo ( coop mates, but they are owned by family members... Golden laced Wyandotte and Silver Laced Wyandotte)

that is a cool little mix .got some greens and brown eggs .I recently added to my flock to get a number of 23 head .14 black Australorps 6 week straight run , 2 Barred rock pullets dotie and roxy. 2 RR pullets Kathleen and lisinga,2 americana pullets ame and spaz. and now to gold star hins and 1 gold star rooster
