Bees are doing well so far. Trying to keep them in sugar syrup is a full time job in itself. I did a very quick hive inspection yesterday early in the morning. Saw the queen and capped larva, but had to close up the hive quickly as the meat bees showed up.

Ron - those Australorps sure look pretty!

Laura, wonderful stories and photos. You had a blessed childhood.

Deb, I priced misters at Lowes for my multiple pens and cringed at the price. Is Costco cheaper?

I don't know how I'm going to survive this week...

The heat is quite terrible.

I am using the Orbit 30060 misters from Amazon. The kit cost is: $18.19 with Prime. It has the ability to add 50' of misters per string. There are a lot of options and the heads are brass. So far they work great!

You can also very simply add an automatic water timer to turn the system on/off when you aren't home. I found one at Walmart for $25.

Yes. I priced them all over, there are cheaper systems around, but I wanted one that would last for several years. I also reads lots of reviews. The thing I liked also, most systems come as a kit and you have to put all the parts together. From my experience with setting up drip systems, that's where your chance of leaks comes in. The system from Costco was totally factory installed with mist heads 2 ft apart. All we did was zip tie it along the overhead wire (it comes with hangers to attach to wood, but we didn't use them), screw on the hose and it was ready to turn on. You let the water run for 20 seconds, then screw in about 4 nozzles and repeat until they are all in. Just so you can wash any little bits out of the line. It took maybe 15 minutes to set up each length.

And the huge selling point for me, Costco's return policy. If we didn't like anything for any reason (even no reason), just walk into any warehouse and return. I suppose if you were a crook of a consumer (

), you could use one during the heat and return it. It irritates me when people do stuff like that, it just costs the rest of it, but I've seen it done.

ETA - be careful with the cheaper systems, even if you get brass nozzles, the cheaper systems have plastic fittings that the nozzle screws into. The Costco system is all brass and stainless with heavy duty tubing.

Already have a good timer we only used a little so perfect to repurpose for the misters. DH is pleased he kept it. (We used it last summer for a temporary set up to keep the front yard alive while he was recuperating from multiple surgeries and complications. We completed our DIY drip systems this spring).

Good info. Easier install than we envisioned.

Just in from mucking out the run and coop. Doesn't take long as I sift sand with a sprinkle of PDZ. In that short time, I got hot!

That video is way to true. I knew what she was going to bring up next before she said it. Good thing none of us think like that. It's only missing a bird flying up to land on her shoulder unexpectedly.
