I am sorry yours are not nice. Mine are very tame and friendly. They are my next Breeder Quality breed. One day I will have all of them switched over...Ok by the Fall I think.

we are the same no ac. we have a swamp cooler I fixed yesterday which was nice. kept the house at 83 which is better than the 91 and 93 we had in hereOh my gosh no AC? I would be outside with the misters too. Probably feels better than AC anyways
83 is bearable for sure, glad you got the swamp cooler fixed.
I forgot to use the swamp cooler today! But the house did not get that bad, except for the chick room that is my office. Ive taken to calling it the Bikram yoga room!
I have a duck that is either a prodigy or an explorer or has a HUGE death wish. The BBS silkie pen is a large Shed built on a hill. The entire thing is penned in with stairs. I have to take mommas with 3 day to 3 week chicks out of the area since there are stairs to navigate to get in and out of the ample shed.
MS. Duck decided she was having none of this this afternoon and went to look for her real mother. At.. what .. 12 hrs old?? She got out of the shed and underneath. We got home at 830 to move her and momma up to the porch and she was gone!! I was sure a rat had eaten her, but no, she had just ambled out into the night to explore the underside of the shed. She is now all fluffed up and looks like a TV duck star ready for her close ups.
I have NO idea how she got under there, but it took an hour to find her. They are not joking when they say Muscovy's are quiet!.
I gave momma a couple of chicks to brood with the ducks so she will here them peeing. She was not recognizing the duck under her as a baby once we moved her to the new place.
Duck no 2 has tried to drown himself in a glass candle I put on the wire mesh to keep it in place, smother herself under the card board egg tray, and got sat on my duck 3. Duck 3 has in no way tried to cause its own death yet, I figure its a good sign. I have to give them the regular warterer, however, not the quail one, so they can keep their nares clean. This is making me nervous they are gonna drown themselves.
Somehow I'm seeing myself with a lot of duck stories once these 3 are grown....

We didn't have anything when we bought the property with an old double wide on it. The swamp cooler was the first thing we added. We were up every 3 hours throwing wood in the stove when it was cold. I don't miss that mobile at all when I drive by it on the freeway. It is strange to see it on the other end of town.
We have a heat pump for each level now. It has worked out really well as long as we have power. We heat with wood in the winter, we usually cool down at night and the house fan can cool it quickly.
The forecast for today was 101, we hit 106 that I know of. Tomorrow is supposed to be hotter. Eric said it felt like we were back in Blythe again today, I couldn't argue that point.

Flip flops are especially bad when your toenails are painted red. I can tell you it doesn't feel good to have your toes constantly pecked.Another newbie lesson learned. Flip flops BAAAD idea in my sand based run! Especially with well hydrated birdies. The brilliant idea I had for rigging up a new roost inside the run dampened a lot when I felt sticky sandy smelly poo goosh between my naked toes. Icky poo!
I'm making several modifications to the run now that chicks are 3 months old. They've grown so much since they moved in that the water and feed needed to be raised. I want the containers to be secured so they don't topple. And I want to ensure my modifications don't create choking hazards. Don't want to have one dangling by the neck on a bungie cord. They are intensely curious and don't always realize they are growing and it isn't far fetched to think they might squeeze themselves into too tight spaces. At the same time, I want them to have a stimulating environment. That's where the extra roost comes in. I put it up temporarily to see if my placement even makes sense to my girls. I'm ahead of the fame so far in thinking from a chicken's perspective so hope they appreciate today's efforts.
Wish it cooled down here. Still 84 right now at 10:30PM.

I don't have any experience with it, so can't give any opinion.
If only I actually had space! Alas, I live in a city, and am not even sure I really have enough space for my six bantam chickens!
But the mini cows I have seen sure are cute! Will you post a picture?
