I'm no expert, only have had 2 different batches of eggs hatched by my broody. Once the chicks are up and moving around mama leaves the nest to start showing them food, water, and other chicken behavior. It's so cute! That is when I would move them. Do other chickens have access to the mama right now?

Yes. i tried to move her from the start bur she refused. most of time everyone else is Out ranging but they all have access

She will go all psycho on them if they come near her babies. As long as she's willing to sit on the nest I guess you can leave her there, but once her babies start exploring she will more than likely abandon any eggs that have not hatched.

I want to move just outside of a gated community and let my Roosters crow Legally....

Our neighbors have some kind of parrots and they are WAY louder than our four roosters!

After a moment of silence for the missing Quail and a quick prayer for their safe return, Lets look at some Pictures!

The Blue and Black Australorps from Hupp Farms are coming along nicely! I like their fluff and puck look...

Beautiful! Love blue chickens! I need to take better pics of my blue orp roo.

Hey Ron, said rooster (Brawny) is "going after" our tiny little Ameraucana pullet. I need to take a pic to show size difference. Can he CRUSH her? He's the biggest chicken and she's the smallest chicken.

I would keep them away from each other until he is a bit older. I hear Orps can be clumsy so you want him to get over the clumsiness.

He probably would not crush her. Does she squat for him?

She runs away from all four. For some reason Ellie is just super cute to all of them right now. Not sure if she's ever been caught. They roos also chase after the Marans pullet. Not sure where I'd put them to seperate them

Two weeks ago, I told you all about my two broody hens. Their eggs did not hatch. One sat on the nest for over five weeks, the other for a month. Two days after they quit setting, Ron brought me chicks that he had incubated for me. I put both hens in a pen with the chicks to see what they would do. They ignored them. I took one hen and most of the chicks out, leaving one chick with the one hen. She started caring for that chick, so I put all the chicks back in with her. She squawked at all the additional chicks, while coddling the one. When I checked them, after dark, all the chicks except her favorite were huddled in the corner. I took them, one by one, and put them next to her. She would growl at me, then pull the chick under her. Since then, she has been caring for all of them very well. I'm pleasantly surprised! This is the first time I have been able to get a surrogate broody to accept chicks.
