California - Northern

My bird counts - thought I would share. This is a big difference from the 10 tops I wanted in the beginning.

4 Geese (all Africans) + 1 Canada goose that adopted my flock (I hope it flies away this Fall)

24 Ducks - 21 females, 3 males / of these numbers 9 are Silver Appleyards and the rest are my layers. All the males are SA.

21 LF Chickens - 2 of which are males (the two males are Cream Legbars and they will be covering my flock)

7 Bantams - Silkies, Sizzles and BLRW - 1 of which is a male

Oh crud plus I have 2 Sizzle roos penned up - they are pets. LOL

Then I have my oops Sizzle trio that are Sizzle X BBLRW. 1 M / 2 F. I don't count them at all because I will be rehoming them.

Not too crazy right?

I need to rehome a few that I don't want. Then I want to add just couple more leghorns and a couple dark brown layers. Literally two of each tops. I have about 60 birds if you add it all up. When I do that I cringe though so I try not to. :P

I'm the wrong person to ask, but I'd count them as 1/2 a chicken.

But then, my cockerels don't count, chicks don't count, eggs incubating don't count, broodies don't count........... So I only have about 18 chickens!

LOL I like it! I totally counted my 7 week old chicks! I swear those banties hardly take up any room. I love their teeny eggs. Yum!

you're ahead of me -- counting everyone, including four broodies and three one-week old chicks, i'm at 28 -- all LF, all girls except one adult male and three teenaged boys (well, i suppose one/some/all of the chicks could be boys too). and there are a dozen hatching eggs in the mail. no waterfowl.

i originally thought, a year ago, that i'd have four chickens, MAYBE six. famous last words.

I remember that too!

Chicken math....is amazing!

I went on a chicken field trip this morning, trying to get cages organized for fair. Anyone know where Brabanters go?

They are recreated from an extinct Breed from The Belgium\Netherlands area and are only found in The continental US.

Apparently they are good in winter and can get quite fat!

So, They look like a Polish and lay nice eggs, especially in winter; then I would think they go near the Polish and Silkies.

Or maybe they go where the Wild things Go.

Thank you debs-flock for understanding my poorly worded question.
What makes all this a little easier is that 99% of the birds are from Ideal. I'll have to see what happens with the BBR cubalayas and the Japaneese bantams they listed. I'm wondering about the silver phoenix listed on the sheet also. I'm learning but there are so many breeds I've never seen.
They are exploring moving the horse competitions up to Douglas County due to smoke, our fair is so late in the summer the kids only get a few days to get ready for state fair in horse. We get 2 weeks for poultry.
