As usual beautiful birds Ron. I've never seen a coronation before, looks like a challange to breed with regularity.

I hope I can find out!

Our Fly Babies is supposed to have some of the best Partridge Penes and so far they look very nice for a rare breed.

love that king's comb!

i've just relocated the broody Amelia (#2) out of the regular nesting boxes, where she kept getting kicked off of her nest by higher ranking hens (who then sang an egg song but didn't lay anything! the nerve!), and put her into a nesting box inside the "extra" pen with Frances the egg-sitter plus Jane & her two chicks. each girl has her own box, separated by a good 2 feet or so, within the henhouse (above the run).

so far, so good -- Amelia #2 nestled in to her box and settled onto her eggs, and the other two (already settled in THEIR boxes) didn't kick up any fuss. remains to be seen what Jane might do tomorrow morning, but i hope she just walks on past in her eagerness to get down to the run.

cross your fingers...

So I may be moving in a few weeks. How the heck do you move chickens when you only gave one coop? I can't truly afford another and I have a limited amount of time to move.

My current set up is not move friendly.

I have been racking my brain trying to come up with a solution and I haven't come up with a satisfactory plan.

Any of you had to do a move with chickens?

There is a shed moving service in the Sac area. They can move your coup.

I have not moved with chickens but sure have transported a bunch of them.

Coup lockdown for two days when you get them to the new place.

Thanks Ron. Yeah they charge around $500. I am not sure my construction would hold up to any kind of fork lift......

Also I have 13 girls. I have to have something set up I guess before I move them. Don't have anything big enough to hold them for any length of time.

Quote: Then if they are bantams, they would be AOCCL & of course the "flufflies" will all be FL.

It can be a real challenge to sort out utility birds. There was a large family with them at the State Fair this year. The judge DQ'd all of them. I gave the kids some chicks when they cooped out at the end of fair.

Ya Ali I'd say borrow dog crates.

Can you take your coop down in 4 parts( each wall) and move it that way?

Do you have a garage in your new house? You could get a wooden fruit box or one of those huge boxes they have fruit in at Costco ( that can be hard to move too but they are cardboard.) And put it in the garage for a while cover it with chicken wire or netting or some such.

Or sacrifice a bathroom ( make sure it can be hosed down) and put them in there for a week while you move your coop.
