because Corid is a relatively benign medication, it seems, I've gone ahead and put that in their water any time a chicklet seems listless or puffy, regardless of age -- two of my chickens died last year after doing the i'm-just-not-interested-in-anything routine for a few days, and they were completely different ages (one probably 8-10 weeks old, the other very close to point of lay) -- but since i started using Corid more quickly, they've all snapped out of it. (if i'm remembering right, "all" = two more have done the puffy/listless thing, one was a young chick and one was a year old, just recently -- Frances the auntie-broody! she did not have mites after all)

i try not to overmedicate (the birds, my cats, or myself), but i figure, Corid doesn't hurt the healthy birds, and it might help...

Well, I have not heard back from the vet yet, but I am really leaning towards cocci......poops that were normal this morning are certainly not normal this afternoon. Runny, bloody, not good at all.
She has however perked up a bit this afternoon so maybe the corrid is working a bit.. She did eat a scrambled egg earlier, and some apple just now.


So, I think I am closer to gaining my Crazy Chicken Lady badge. Out running errands, and we run into to get a coffee....I open my purse to get my money to pay and my 11 year old spots the baggie of chicken poo in my purse and asks "Mom, what is that?". I just tell her it's a snack for later and try to divert her attention.

I've muddled through entry sheets and figured most of them out, other than 1 entry form. She might be bringing all boys, I don't think it's right but she's on the judging team in Portland this wekend so I'll have to wait till she gets back to ask.

What she said above about Round Robin. At State Fair and my County Fair (El Dorado), it consists of rabbit, cavy, poultry, dog & pygmy goat. Large animal is steer, horse, sheep, hog, goat and I think dairy cow at the State.

It's HARD because you not only have to know how to show the animal you are grilled by the judges to determine your knowledge of the species as well. It is a real feather (or medal) on your cap to win it. Also there is usually a belt buckle and a cash prize involved as well.

I was good at showmanship but not so hot at grooming. One time at the Redwood Empire Fair the judge singled me out and said that I had done an excellent job of exhibiting my ewe but that her belly had straw dangling from it so he couldn't place me...details and tidiness, the bain of my existence when I was a kid.

Deb do you enjoy being a judge? My daughter is thinking of taking the class to learn to be a judge in equine events. I think it would be a great experience for her.

The only stuff I've judged is showmanship in dog, cavy, poultry & rabbit, and dog obedience. I enjoy working with the kids. We lived and breathed 4H for ten years with my son. I also participated in interview panels in the kids competitions at rabbit nationals around the country. My son aged out of 4H many years ago. I still compete in fairs for myself, but I kept up working with kids. Part of it is enjoying working with the kids and part is we've always said you need to have a little carny worker in your blood to work the fairs. I've been asked if I would be interested in working the small animal building next year at state for the entire month long run. That's a LONG time to be away from home and my own animals, but I'm thinking about it. I've spent the last 25 years every year in that building, it gets to be second nature

Make sure they all drink the water with corid in it. If they are very sick, dip their beaks. It only takes a bit to get them feeling better and they usually perk up within three days if they have cocci.

Make sure they all drink the water with corid in it. If they are very sick, dip their beaks. It only takes a bit to get them feeling better and they usually perk up within three days if they have cocci.

No one else is sick yet, but everyone else is getting corrid. Matilda, my sick girl is in the house in a dog crate. Weird....it came on sooooo quickly. She was acting fine yesterday and bam....she was sick. The fecal sample I took to the vet this morning was normal and solid. I kept thinking they were going to send me out of there and tell me I was nuts for bringing it in.

Lol let's just hope they don't invade the your purse looking for that snack when you aren't around.

I've only been in the poultry barn for 3 years, by the end of the week we superintendents have our own language, constant noise, heat, lack of sleep, problem parents. It's OK, we know what we are talking about. Within a week we are ready to do it again. Seeing the looks on the kids faces when something clicks into place is great. Of all the projects in 4-H who would have thought that a little chicken would give confidance to a teenager?

Eric is coming up for our county fair and I think he is judging state also. Our kids really like him.

 Personally I would not take the risk.  It is too hot to ship this time of year.  See if seller will hold birds til October or November 

They're from greenfire farms so I don't know if they would or not :/
