California - Northern

I don't even know them and I am so excited for them. Great that they are so close to each other.
This is such a sweet thing to say. Thanks!
I was able to get the Pita Pintas to stay on the grass today so I took some pictures.

I have too many boys in this hatch. I have 5 boys and 4 girls. Unless this one turns into a Boy....

They are almost 7 weeks old and getting big!

For sure Girl!

I have to decide if this EO Marraduna Basque gets to be the main Breeding Rooster of if one of his brothers from the last hatch is the one. I will be able to keep three in Winters at the egg farm and it looks like I have 4 to choose from. One goes to Bayocum.

These are two pictures of the older Cockerel:

Beautious!

Quote: Thanks I really am so happy about it! I have no Bantams...yet but I think I am getting a couple of Belgian D'Anvers to be buds with my crippled roo in his new digs.

I always seem to be looking down on them, they were out in their play area today and their gate seemed weird. The males all look knock-kneed to me. I'll let them grow some more and see if it changes.

They are supposed to get better when they grow. I like the ones I hatched--they are from Megan so not closely related to The Canadian Basque hens.

Are you hatching some from Megan?

We are working on it. Our fair starts in 6 days (boy that sure snuck up on me), But I think I can get someone to give me a break if I need to pick up eggs.

With our 20 kids we have over 140 birds entered in 4-H this year. Last yeat I think it was around 70 birds. We had to get in the rafters and drag out more cages on Saturday to try and get ready. We aren't thrilled that we have to stack cages but we ran out of tables in the barn. I hope opens numbers are about the same. I'll be bring in 4 broodies for hatching during fair and a couple of the basques also.

We do too. We watch as a (shrinking) family. Daughter #2 was just hired to work in a similar situation, Eventing Barn, in Newton NJ. Just about 35 minutes away from her sister!! This is the best news for all of us. Haven't decided when D2 is hitting the road but probably within a week or 10 days, then our son leaves for school on the 16th. If you would have asked me if they would all be up and out by summer's end, even 2 weeks ago I would have said "Nope" and now look!

Time for more chickens???

what i wouldn't give to live that close to my sister!!! alas, she's in NY...

Is the 20 just from your club? That's fantastic! Gross question but what do you do about the poo when you stack cages?

So sorry that you guys are so far from one another. How often do you get to visit?

How many of you are going to the Heirloom Expo? I've been asked by someone to see if someone could video a seminar at the poultry show.
What is the heirloom expo? I mean I assume it is based around heirloom varieties of ag products but where is it and when and how big and what not?

Heading to Sebastapol today to the equestrian consignment shop. D2 flies out day after tomorrow.

Hey Ron don't you think a flock composed solely of Pita Pintas, Mottled Javas, Delawares, Australorps SLWs and Lakenvelders would be stunning?
