That is so cool!!

well done, daughter and quail!! bravo!!

and of course, the day after i ordered my new incubator: another broody. this is my second SPPR, and now both have them have gone broody TWICE this year, despite only being a year old & being categorized as an "infrequent brooder" on the Henderson's chart. i'm going to see if i can move her into the same pen that her sister is nesting in now, and then can just divide the eggs between them -- seems simpler than starting her on some new ones.

broodies everywhere! although actually, here's a question: I'm also starting to see more feathers in their pen, looks like at least a few of the birds are starting to molt -- will that be a problem for the broody-moms, if they are molting at the same time as trying to incubate and/or keep chicks warm?

Chickengirl quarantine the full 3 weeks and when they get to you I'd worm them and delouse them. Adult birds are big vectors and will be exposed to anything and everything in the mail plus coming from a big farm.

Gff is notorious for not telling people they send stuff too. Or just not sending it. They gave been having massive growing pains the last few years.

Liz I have never had a bcm not be black. Even when they jumped the fence. I'd contact the breeder. There are very very rare mutant white fcbms . but they are rare as hens teeth. Asleep like that it does not have a marans feel to me..

Thanks Chiqita. It's either a Mutant FBCM, or an Olive Egger. I talked to the breeder and they said they thought one of the FBCM hens must have gotten a little lovin' from her EE. Wynette from the Marans thread said :

She's got a bloodline with Wade Jeane in it. Jeane crossed Wheaten Marans into this Black Coppers to improve egg color, so now & then a wheaten will pop back up.

I don't mind either way. I love Oe's and have always wanted Marans, so it's a win-win for me.

hahahaha.... HE is the enabler!!!! and I love all the "exceptions" just wanted to share a couple of pics of my guy Ozzie. The first one is taken in mid June when I first brought him and Harriet home from Kim's. These next two were taken today: That's Della a hatchery Dell behind him. Look at her leg color next to his...plus she got into the drip pan under the bbq and is all greasy dirty on her head so she is not looking her best. Ozzie's tail is really pretty. The black has the beetle sheen so it glows green. I am just so tickled that he is so good looking and has matured the way he has. The little red girl who is barely visible is Norma Rae
I agree, he is a real handsome guy. I loke how they hold themselves up so proudly. Wish we could have roosters too. Congrats to you.
