Make sure you quarantine them.

Mary has a hard time getting a hold of them too.
Quarantine them for how long?

3-4 weeks. Take care of your other birds first, then the new birds, so if they do have anything, you don't carry it into your other flocks. Wear different shoes, or disinfect them.

Hi guys/gals!!! I hope everybody is well!!! My baby quail are almost 5 weeks already!!! I heard one try to crow today :) So cute!!! Getting ready to cook up another batch :)!! NOT 111 this time!! uugghh..lol

I just have to brag a bit!!! My daughter entered her barred rock pullet & my Golden Manchurian Quail into the Nevada County fair!!! The BR was too young, I guess, but my Golden Boy, "Mr. Man," GOT 1ST PLACE!!! WOOHOO!!!!

Congrats! I was there today. I walked through the poultry area. I really enjoyed talking with the dairy cow breeder. He crosses jerseys and Holsteins. They were beautiful. I love walking through the animal areas. The draft horses were stunning, as usual.

I did think of Deb when I saw the chicks hatching area, but there were only 10 eggs or so, so I figured it wasn't Deb or there would be many more.

Not yet. Mine are only 10 weeks old. Are they early layers? Do you have pics??? Have any of your OE started laying yet? I have one I think is a boy, and one I'm hoping is a girls. He is grey, with orange-ish on the wings, and she is black, but has a little gold around her neck.
well not that early :)
Ill post some this weekend
I just read about the Rcom incubator in Backyard Poultry magazine, they look pretty cool! Which model are you getting?

on Jason's recommendation, i ordered the Rcom Max 20. what did the magazine have to say about them?
Mine is great. I love the fact it holds temp and humidity so steady. You only have to fill the water every three days till you up the humidity

I notice you have straw on the ground. How often do you clean it out? Our pens have dirt which makes it easy to rake every day. I like the look of the straw but I'm not sure how long to wait to clean. Thanks
Judy
It's actually a grass hay that I put in there as entertainment when I went on vacation and they couldn't range a month ago. I have a large run...about 400 sq feet...and it has spread around to the point where it isn't really deeply covering the run any more. It is on a dirt floor. I have a poop tray in my coop so that poo doesn't end up in the run and they range for most of the day so I don't know if your results will be the same, but I haven't raked it out yet. The run isn't fly ridden or smelly. I plan to just put another bale down in a couple of weeks and don't intend to rake it up until it rains and gets yucky.

I have 14 Pita Pinta eggs that are going into the incubator tomorrow morning!!!! Thank you, Megan!!!

D2 arrived safely at her new home. Here is the fb page for where she is living and working https://www.facebook.com/penwickeventing?fref=ts New boss sent a group of three volunteers to go get her at the airport. Apparently they had a great "get to know you" ride to the farm and now she starts to work.

Icelandics start laying between 5 and 6 months. They are my most consistent (and frustrating) layers. They are currently laying their eggs in an open shavings bag instead of the nesting boxes. They are extreme escape artists also. (Read my signature line)
