The thought of trying to get a chicken to roll over.. oooh - that is funny!

No - chicken submission is the squat. Put your hand on their back and push down. Hold them down until they stop struggling. Like you are a rooster and they are the hen and need to submit to you. You can pull on a few feathers near their heads if they try to bite you - not pull them out - just tug on them.

Roosters usually pick up the food and drop it a couple of times, they don't always hold it. Your fingers look like food - so if you hand feed be prepared for the stupider ones to try and eat your fingers... If your fingers looked and were as tough as beaks I think it would be easier... Long fingernails maybe?

Thanks for the laugh!

Another question for you all. Does Blue Kote help keep the other chickens from pulling out the crest feathers of the polish? Someone likes to keep pulling the same feathers out of only one of the Polish. I have 3 Polish in the 13 chickens but for some reason they just keep pulling out the new growth that is trying to come in on only one chicken.

It might. I suspect the ones pulling it out are doing so because they are "blood feathers" (new growth) and have a lot of protein. I know Blue Kote stops pecking if they see red - not sure if it will stop the pulling if they have become addicted to pulling those feathers. Is it just one bird - or is it a bunch of them?
