California - Northern

I have two broodies right now. Driving me crazy!! They scare all the others out of the nesting boxes, so I keep finding eggs in random places. One of my little EE's started jumping the garden fence and laying in there. I found a spot with a bunch of little blue eggs, and a whole bunch of pecked tomatoes. Like she thought she needed a snack while she's laying.

four broodies here, out of 11 hens. and had five earlier this year. two (sisters) are repeats. but i love watching them teach their chicks how to navigate the big wide world...

They are wheaten/blue wheaten true Ameraucanas. So yes, the color is not recognized, but they are not crosses/mutts. I had a Schnauzer that was a purebred, but he had patched markings on him so he wasn't a recognized color. It meant he wasn't show quality, but didn't make him any less schnauzer, neither did it make him a mutt.
Yeah, Speckles is a Blue Isbar x BC Marans and Brawny is an english orpington, one of his parents is a MF I believe.
They are all looking beautiful

Ameraucanas don't have wattles, but Ellie's comb will get a little bigger. Ellie and Emmet are a cross of my pure, Meredith buff Ameraucana hens x a pure, Pips&Peeps/Smith blue wheaten rooster. So they are non standard colored Ameraucanas

I just can't get enough of looking at Emmet!! He is so beautiful!

I love roosters!

I have 2 broody Seramas right now, they dug out all of my succulents out of my container gardens to make their nest

completely ruined them. They are in the broody cage, hope to snap them out of it soon. Today is day 1, they are not happy. lol
You could always give them some eggs

I have 3 broodies right now. I finally gave in and gave the bantam Buff Brahma hen some eggs from my bantam Polish. Some of the chicks will be buff laced and some will be of mixed color (white, white with red and white with red crele markings from a mix of my buff laced rooster x WC blue and WC chocolate cuckoo hens. I will only be keeping the pure buff laced chicks, so if anyone would like a couple of mixed colored Polish chicks they will be hatching in approximately 11 days.

Well I have no broodies thankfully, because I have no one laying yet. However,my saga with the aggressive mean girls is getting a little ridiculous.

The only way I can tell the two apart is one comb bends to the right and one bends to the left. So they are the mean girls, Righty and Lefty. Original right?

I just don't understand chicken language. They stand there and stare at me and then they will jump up and grab clothes. Then I shove them away with my foot and they peck and they and get at ruffled in the neck.

Tonight I held one down like some of you suggested and she grabbed one of my fingers and proceeded to bite it so I grabbed a few neck feathers and tugged a few times. Mean while Lefty comes over to investigate and I have to try to shoo her away so she doesn't try to peck me in the eye while I am bent over holding the other one down.

She didn't completely relax but she did stop struggling so I held her for a few seconds more and let her go. How long do I keep them pinned down like that?

They are kind of hard to catch and pin. They run really fast. They are really pretty Welsummers but if I have to I may rehome them.

Holy cow!! I would probably boot them across the yard. I have chickens that will come over to me, and peck at me (trying to eat my freckles), but not aggressively. How old are they now? Maybe you should see if you can get a pullet that is a little older than them, to put them in their place.

Yeah they were 15 weeks old this last weekend.. I was thinking about separating them for a couple of days and then reintroducing them but the rest of the chickens I have are pretty mellow. Orpingtons and Ameracaunas, and Polish. The two MFL's are a little more curious, but not like these two.......I am just sort of at a loss. The Orps try to eat and re-eat my freckles. They don't come off so they try again.

I would hold them down until they stop struggling. I wonder why they are so aggressive though.... are they at the top of the pecking order?

I think so. They were still sort of working it out after I had to rehome the last rooster. But they aren't that bad with the other hens. At least not that I see. Maybe I am misreading them.

I did hold Righty down this evening until she stopped struggling and stopped trying to bite me. (jerk) When I let go she took off like the wind. lol

Lefty seems to be the aggressor in the morning. I will see how tomorrow morning is.

I'm not super familiar with the SOP for brahmas, but that is a darn nice looking pullet, especially from a hatchery. And I do agree, she'll be laying very soon!
