We got foxed again . He hit my silkie shed on the hill right at dusk. Pancake went for him when he tried by the chicks and I think he got her. We looked for her for about an hour. The dog went wild this time and chased him out of the coop I know pancake got away but I'm afraid she fell down the ravine. I'm hoping against hope she is hiding down there and she makes noise in the morning.

Her chicks are rejecting all the other mothers and huddled in a corner crying.... the roosters are cooung to them. If it was not so sad it would be precious.
That is so sad, I hope you are right and she is just laying low. One would think she would call in the morning if she has chicks. Are you able to go in the ravine at daylight?

Happy Birthday Deb! Btw our poor EE FINALLY gave up on hatching chicks! Felt like she was in the laying box for soooo long! ;)

Ok so not about chickens BUT we have boxer puppies for sale. 3 males and 2 females. If interested let me know. They are 8 weeks old and ready for their forever homes!

Our boxer (Rose) is AMAZING! She guards our chickens and our goats! And shes so careful with them all! Even one day old Serama chicks (my favorite)! We have had coyotes, skunks, raccoons, bobcats, and hawks near by but between her and our rooster they've protected out little farm well! And the boxer breed is one of the best breeds with children!

They are such pretty chickens. And we LOVE pictures of them! How many eggs did you start with? It sounds like the Pita Pinta's are very fertile.

I started with 14 eggs from Megan. All 14 developed and went into lockdown! The first one is completely out, 2 more have zipped, and 5 have pips. So, 8 out of the 14 show signs of hatching and this is day 20. I'm thrilled!!! I spent an hour this morning taking a video of the first one with his head out. I kept hoping to catch him popping completely out of the shell but missed it. I took a few still photos, too. I'll try to get them downloaded and posted.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Pancake did not appear this morning so I think she is gone. Her chicks are sitting with ebony who was one of the original mothers. I have them locked in silkie shed they are ****** at me. One of the roosters tried to cower mario into a corner this morning so the others could make a run for it.

My nose tells me the skunk came by last night too. Anyone have recommendations for a really good trap? I think the one we have is only good for babies and possums.

Yay for chicks! Yay for birthdays! Yay for feeling better! Yay for nor cal thread!
