Whenever I see a broody sitting on nothing I think the peculiar sadness of lemon eggs....
Or sounds like you gave a nice chicken soap opera there! I bet it all turns out roses and chicks.

So I signed the papers for the loan yesterday. It should hopefully fund Friday, or Monday or Tuesday...or whenever they get around to it!

Not my dream house but still mine. Well mine and the banks.

Our idea of a "Dream" home evolved with each house we bought. Hope you have a smooth transition and come to enjoy your new home!

Molt is a bad word lol! I used to like when my girls took a break and molted but here I got these new orps and right when I get them they decide its time to molt haha! Waiting for the eggs is killing me.

Has anyone seen the Isabel cuckoo and chocolate cuckoo orpingtons on rare breeds auction site? Omg they're beautiful! I wonder if they breed true?

Me too, this isn't my dream house but it's the house my daughter and I started our new life in and now my husband and I have another 2 sons growing up here :) it's where our family started. Not to mention being through 3 remodel projects haha.

I've gone and jinked myself again! Posted yesterday that my partridge rock broody had 2 eggs still developing under her, I thought they had quit earlier so I was happily surprised.

This morning 1 was gone, looked all over thinking it might have been knocked out of the box, moved to another box but no luck finding it or any trace of it. I don't know if it was eaten by a rat (found 2 yesterday evening in another coop) or one of the other hens did it.

My little OEGB is now sitting on the 3 eggs left from Megan. The rock broody looked so sad I just gave her some golf balls, I'll give her back the chicks when they hatch since she is good at raising them. She would not take the orange ball, the yellow and range balls were OK at least.

I had the same thing happen to my broody Coronation Sussex. I gave her 5 eggs from the farm. She has been doing a great job sitting on them with only a couple other girls taking turns laying their egg in her box with her. Then when I checked her 3 days ago, there were only 4 eggs. We do have roof rats here in town but haven't seen one in our yard for quite a while. What we have seen are possums and skunks. I am planning on moving her and her remaining 4 eggs down into a more secure brooder area with my Blue Wheaten AM who is mothering 3 week old chicks. They have gotten along well in the past and Fiona is totally zoned out sitting on her eggs. We are going to be gone for 3 days next week at the Heirloom Festival. My adult son will be here but I don't think that he will do anything for the chickens besides letting them out in the AM & shutting them up in the PM. The eggs aren't due to hatch until after we get back so we are good on that. Does putting the 2 hens together sound like a good idea?
