Potato leek soup today. It will be snowing here tonight at the top! I'm not ready, they YARD is not ready! I hope it won't stick for at least a month...
I know the feeling all to well, we haven't even gotten our firewood yet. So looking forward to stacking 4 cords of wood, the fires around us have affected the price also.

chickee Golden cuckoo marans are my favorite color variety of Marans. How dark are your eggs? Are they sweet? Yours sure are pretty.

Deann...sorry about your boy :-(

My pullets are not that friendly yet, just curious and self confident. The roosters are whimps, which is fine since they are totally non-aggressive. I really like them. They have not started laying, so I am anxious to see their egg color. My rooster comes from a dark egg, so he should improve type and egg color in the next generation. I have been told it is the male that passes on good egg color. I will be posting pictures as soon as I get my first egg!

The are all pretty. I bet the dark one gets some interesting lacing as it matures. You can already see the lacing on its neck.

I have forgotten . . are yours LF or bantam? I think it would be fun to produce a crele bantam line. My hatch last year produced a red crele rooster that was gorgeous. The chick that looks white is getting some red coming in at the edges of his wings, so maybe he will develop some crele markings. I should have kept that rooster but had no room at the time

Since we are sharing pics I wanted to show you my choc rock girl Godiva. She is gorgeous and sweet. I hatched her on 4/26 from an egg I bought from Renee, ChooksChick. Renee isn't doing chocolate rocks right now but this girl is amazing so I hope to find someone else who has breeding stock. I wish I was a better photographer. She is beautiful.

With Miss Sweet T...hatchery speckled sussex

She is beautiful! I love the chocolate color! I have a WC chocolate cuckoo Polish hen that is real pretty. I would work on that color if I were you

It just started raining here in the E Bay area. My ditsy BW Ameraucana mama is clucking like mad for her 3 disobedient chicks. Now, will she teach them to come in out of the rain or not?

Well since I only spelled it with one n it does make it a name more than a description.

Canibal.

Look at all those pretty eggs she was hiding.

It's okay,we don't judge here.....

You know on the Show us Your Inventions thread someone uses one of those dog ball throwers. You know the one that hangs on to a tennis ball and it has a long handle and then you can chuck the ball really far??? They use that to reach in under the broody hens and pick up the eggs. I think I may have to try something like that.

Godiva the Sweet Chocolate Rock. Is she going to lay a special chocolate easter eggs?

You know if you ever had to process a bird with a name and breed like this one, I would say the only appropriate way to eat it would be as Chicken Mole. Are you familiar with Mole? We call it chocolate chicken at our house when we have it.....

Not that you would ever dream of eating your pet of course......... But the whole Godiva, Chocolate Chicken thing had me thinking along those lines. Yeah I know I am tired. Beyond tired really.

I was trying to think of a new nickname for my nephew who has been schlepping helping me move. His name is Jay (which is already a nick name) but as a child we called him Jay Bird. Now that he is 23, Jay Bird is a little embarrassing for him. So as I was thinking, I started thinking about (just for fun of course) something like Jay-Nizzle. Then I thought nah that is too long, and shortened it to Jizzle......... needless to say he prefers Jay Bird at this point!

If your chickens were making that kind of a racket it most likely was because they spotted a predator and were sounding the alarm. The "I want to lay an egg" sounds are like a repetitive, mournful dialog they are having with themselves.

its pouring here

Lewey is getting big and is changing color some. ( Bengal thing )
this is last wek . I took these with the wifes camera. I took some this morning but dont know how to download them. will post those later

He is getting prettier every day! They just keep getting cooler looking as they mature!

Hasn't done much here yet, but is getting darker. Guess we will be getting rain tonight once the storm makes it up here to the mountains. My chicks and their momma are outside for the first time today, but they have a covered yard. Hope your chicks mind their momma!
