California - Northern

If you end up not wanting the Javas for some reason but like the coloring, the Pita Pintas are also dual purpose birds that are calm, sweet, and have lots of personality. Megan says that they crank out the eggs!

Also, if anyone is interested in a processing workshop, we are processing roos this Saturday at my friend's farm in Brentwood. We are starting at 9 and should be done by 1 or 2. Drop me a PM if you want more information.
It would be great but I can't this weekend...

Pita Pintas are on my list

As a US history teacher I am particulary compelled by American Heritage breeds hence the Dels and the NH so I will see how I like my Javas. Gonna be working on a red, white, blue, grey, and black flock. I think I am gonna call it art and ask the NEA for a grant

Is it normal for a rooster to decide that he needs to suddenly start crowing at midnight every night?

For the last three nights one of our three roos has made it his new purpose in life.

It is not uncommon. < insert promo for rooster collar>

What color eggs do the Pita Pinta's lay?

TONS of cockerels here too. Narrowing down in the yard, stocking the freezer this weekend.

This is our first Pita Pinta chick hatching. The egg to its left and above it are also PP eggs. The ones with an F are mixed breeds from the farm.

I got my eggs this morning from Catdance Silkies! :clap    They arrived in excellent shape. No detached air cells and she sent 30! :ep
These are the colors she sent . . . 7 Porcelain, 6 white, 5 Lavender/Split, 4 Buff, 3 Blue/Splash, 3 Paint, 2 Splash. Good thing I have a bantam broody. I am not sure they will all fit in my 24 egg Octagon 20.

Congrats! Wow , thirty eggs is great. Sounds like you have a nice variation.

Wow, NICE! You got the Porcelain you liked! You can also use any Lavenders with those I believe. Broody is going to be VERY happy birdie! What breed is she?

You know, if she sold just eggs from the Partridge pen I would be in serious trouble. Fortunately she doesn't do that...

Countdown to cute chicks begins soon...

hattrick silkies has partridge eggs... just saying! Plus 50% of the babies I hatched since the attack look like they may be partridge. I see another exchange coming up over stockton!

Thanks chicksnthestiks, and everyone else for the nice congratulations on my eggs.

I am happy that I got the colors I did. Now how to decide which ones to put under the broody. I feel like they are golden eggs, so I am worried the Broody might mess up the ones I give her

She will probably get some of the ones I got the most of.
