California - Northern

Finally got some pics uploaded to my computer. These are my 5 week old Pita Pinta chicks along with 1 Bresse cockerel and a Barred Rock/Marans mix. The little BR mix looked just like a Barred Rock after hatch but now she is getting her bars mostly on her head & neck and they are more brown than black.

This is our favorite PP. Her (?) name is Harlequin and we call her Harley for short. She is the friendliest one and runs to get picked up. She is the only one who isn't scared at all when we hold her. Please don't tell me if she is a he. I want to live in denial for at least another week.

They look very nice!

Pullet in the last picture.

I think I see two maybe three Cockerels in the group picture. It is hard to see the one in the back looking away, but it looks like that one has a Cockerel comb.

Thanks, Ron! Yeah for our Harley girl!!! There are 2 of them that have big, red combs and little red wattles. They are also bigger than the pullets. So I know that there are 2 cockerels. There are 2 or 3 others that have slightly bigger and redder combs than the obvious girls. I would be thrilled to have 2 boys and 7 girls, though. What a good start to a breeding program.

While I'm sharing pics, take a look at my rumpless splash Langshan that hatched at the farm. She is not just missing her tail feathers. She has no tail at all! She is so cute and my friend really likes her so she gets to stay in with the layers and not be processed or rehomed.

I saw that. I really have to stay away from non-APA breeds. I've got to many 4-H kids looking for conformation birds. They were tempting.
I do have Fogel RIRs and Black Australorps. Penedesencas too so I do have some APA breeds.

Do the 4-H kids want mostly Bantams?

denial.. not just a chicken in egypt! ( she looks like a girl to me)
Ron thats very exciting! I love those birds, was looking last year but we are on the not as many swing now, lol.
I saw chooklit today at the show, she is looking to downsize out of her Japanese bantams and her Oslandic Dwarfs. She had some fabulous birds there, the kids were frothing at the mouth around her birds.

I have not heard from miss Molly. Im hoping they are on vacation, but in case they have downsized out of the orphs, anyone have a Jubilee cockerel laying around needing a home? I have a Splash orph young boy that is eyeing them, it seems like a crime!

I was thinking about Chooklet the other day!

I hope Miss Molly is ok too.

We had twice as many bantams as large fowl entered at the fair this year but the kids also tend to have layer flocks as well. Then there are the Polish, I never see a hen or cock, winters are hard on them and the kids usually have them in mixed flocks.

I get asked all the time by the parents, where they can get better quality birds. I can relay show info but actually getting them in the car to drive to a show is another matter. 17 birds in crates is my max and that is for a short trip. Seems I'm the only one crazy enough to drive to Red Bluff (5 1/2 hours), Stevenson, WA (5 1/2 hours), Salem, OR (4 hours), and that's on the hope there will be a breed DD likes. I'm hoping we can get a group together to go to the show in Eureka in February, another 4 hour drive but only 1 pass to get through in the winter!

I would like to get the kids together and ask what breeds they want and then try and find eggs for them. The down side is shipping into Oregon, the states not known for handling eggs well.
