California - Northern

We have never raised meat birds but we hear the ratio is 2 pounds of feed for a pound of weight gain.

We have the second pigeon egg tonight. I've been working on their new area for the last 3 days off and on, DH took time off from work so I had a few extra projects, cleaning gutters, cleaning the garage, spreading 3 yards of mulch.

I'm picking up the chickens at 4pm tomorrow

A big cardboard box should be fine for a ride of less than 10 minutes, right?

Google maps should have a setting based on how well you know your area--I reduced the first 8 directions (out of 9) to "Go past Mary Peacock"

:Congrats on picking up the girls tomorrow. You were getting some Wyandottes right?

If the box closes and it's dark inside they should just settle down for the ride.

Thank you! Yep, I was right. It has corn and soy which are 2 things I'm trying to avoid. Well, I guess I won't buy another bag.

King Feed Freedom GMO Layer is non corn non soy and it cost me 22.4 per 50 pounds. It is a good price for non soy non corn and a good trade off from Organic since is is GMO Free.

The Hens do well with it.

I'm going to at least pick up a SLW and a GLW. She also has that white mystery hen and some red stars. And some others.

I'm in trouble, aren't I?

I think it's good that I'm taking cash, not the check book.

That's what I feed my flock along with sprouted grains: wheat, barley, oats, and a high end bird seed with BOSS, millet, etc. My DH picks up the King Freedom Feed for me at Scotts Valley Feed. We are paying $22.09 for a 50 lb bag of layer pellets and $23.89 for 50 lb of starter.

Here is the info on the tag for the layer pellets:

I have some almost six-week-old chicks. 1 Dominique Rooster. 2 Dominique Pullets. 1 New Hampshire Red Pullet. 1 Buff Orpington Pullet. 1 Easter Egger Pullet. They're going out to the coop/run this Monday, their six week birthday. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

Dominique chickens are on my list for someday. I like their history and of course their black and white pattern.

I read that they were used as clean up birds at dumps. They ate the refuse and supplied eggs and meat. They also lived in a fairly harsh environment and did not get sick from it. They are very tough birds!

Good choice and I would love to see pictures.

You are counting your chickens incorrectly. Each breed counts as one chicken....
