That is exciting!

First hatch in the cabinet incubator?
Yes! This is my test hatch and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do things. It is actually a hatcher that can be used as an incubator. It doesn't have automatic turning so I had to manually turn the eggs 3 or 4 times/day. And now that they are hatching, I'm not sure what is the best way to add more water. I was going to run a tube through the vent hole and into the water container. But I can't see the water level through the front window and the container is 3-4 in higher than the vent hole. So I put another container on the shelf right below the vent hole and ran the tube into it. I'm thinking that it should be a little bit larger container. The humidity is staying around 58-60. It sure recovered quickly when I opened the door to turn the eggs. Both humidity and temp went right back up. I set 12 eggs from the farm. My friend had her kids collect them for me so I'm not sure if they are all Bresse or Bresse plus some farm mix eggs. 11 made it to day 18 but 2 were iffy. 3 have hatched and 3 more have pips that I can see. I'm not used to being able to see them from only one side so there may be pips on the back side of some of them. Time will tell!

We've not used grey water, but good luck keeping the chickens out of the garden. We build more fences around our raised beds than anything else. They always find a way in. I think goats would be harder to keep out which is why we don't have them. I would think that as long as they don't get to standing water it would be OK. Chickens body temps runs 101/103°, they love going through compost piles, the increased body temp helps them cook what they ingest.
We fence in our gardens, too! I bought a roll of fencing at Concord Feed when they were having their yearly percent off everything sale. We have used it to enclose several garden areas. We have our two broodie mamas with their six chicks in an area with our tomatoes, squash, and grapes. 2 hens and their babies aren't doing too much damage. They are cleaning up the bottom leaves, weeds, and bugs. When the chicks get a little bigger, they are going to have to be banned because I know from experience that they will demolish the plants especially the grape vines.

The run isn't covered yet, nor is ALL the fencing "fitted" with its wire apron.

I am hoping to get that done during the few days of coop confinement..... It will also take a few days to get the flock members from the Homestead to the Ranch. This morning I boxed and transported 7 very startled cockerels. Haven't really determined the total Cockerel Count - while loading the Quest, I eyeballed at least five more - nor have I made the final decision(s) about which pullets will join them. Plus, HHandbasket has been keeping 6 more of my roosters which began to crow just as I started looking for property.

Very nice! It's a good feeling to have it done, isn't it?!

That is a very nice coop. Your contractor is worth using for sure.

I hope the move goes well for your flock.

I noticed that @wolftracks has not posted on BYC since Sept. 19. Does anyone know how Kim is doing?
Kim does post on FB. She is always a busy lady! I hope that she chimes in here. I've been wondering how Karen sewandgrow is doing. She hasn't posted on this thread since last February, I think. She had Dominiques but she may have gotten rid of them when she was downsizing.

I think of Karen sometimes too.

I forgot that she had Dominique chickens. She had so many Breeds before downsizing.
