Hi chiqita, Where did you order saddles from? i've seen some places, but i'm thinking some with snaps would be good. Hopefully i'll be able to use them despite this rainy weather. I feed about 20% too. And i have 1/10 and a 1/13 ratio. The nails one the Marans look scary though. He is a very sweet boy: feeds his girls and I don't see him harassing them. I think i'll trim the nails and look for saddles. I asked my husband if he has a dremel. He said it's air powered and my chickens would probably have a heart attack if I used it. Have to find a lower powered one.
There used to be someone on the Paypal swap offered hen saddles. The Paypal Swap is pretty much dissolved at this point (i think) but you may have luck finding them on one of the other swaps. Why buy, when you can trade

I have a 3 year old Welsummer that flogged me the other day. I felt something come up behind me and hit my leg and was completely shocked when I realized it was him. He has always been such a gentleman with me and his ladies. Instincts took over and I slipped my foot under his belly and tossed him about 10 feet. He has not come within 50 feet of me since. I think he will behave himself for the next 3 years.
I do hate when they get in a sneak attack. Cheryl had a LF Tolbunt roo that just didn't like me. He had never shown any aggression towards me until one time I was walking out of the pen and he attacked me from behind. I never turned my back on him after that! My Bresse roo has systematically attacked 4 of his caretakers and been sent flying. The last person he attacked was my friend's 18 year old son who is over 6 feet tall. I didn't see it but Jake must have booted him 10 feet or more. Jenny says we better eat him before he is too bruised up to be any good. This is his last week of living the good life with his harem of girls. We are going to be very careful choosing which of his sons we keep for breeding. No roosters that attack humans are allowed to breed!

(I guess that could sound like animal abuse but there were only 2 or 3 incidents of forced flying. He's had a good life and would have kept having it if he had learned to respect us.)

He only got his ladies about 5 weeks ago before that he was in a bachelor pen with another roo. Do you think he is just coming into the flock protector roll now so is feeling his oats?
He was either showing off or protecting them would be my guess. I bet he will settle in fine for you.

Wow, you have some beauties.
Thank you! The blue girl did not make the cut for breeding. She is on the small side, her tail is pinched, and her tail angle is too low. Her coloring is beautiful, though! She will probably join my friend's laying flock at the farm.

I want more too! I am so done with the dryness.

ha ha I drive by you frequently ;) Do you sell your eggs? We are on your side of Lake County . Go through there to get too Woodland or Travis.
Hi Chic CAN! I am in Lakeport. Welcome to the thread! What breeds do you have? Have you joined us on facebook @ Lake County CA Chicken Peeps, we share information and potentially can hatch/supply chicks/processing services to one another .

Quote: I do too to help offset the cost of feed. We eat our birds and sell them. Okay I was wondering about that. I just look at those signs and Shudder. only because I already have too many eggs :p lol

yup I do :)

I just have my pretty orps, and some meat ducks :p

Quote: Hello!

Thank you :) Spring Valley.

I have Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons. And Peking ducks. Which I do sell. I am just not hatching any until Feb. Taking a break and have my pretty roos to sell. Otherwise this spring they will be on the menu :p

I have not joined it yet. I had fun this summer processing. he only help I had was a group of lovely ladies that many had never held a live chicken before let alone process. ha ha it was great. My 8 year old even lopped a head off of a chicken. She's a go getter.

I hope so, he was calm as a lamb once I held him in my arm pit for awhile

Good to know. Maybe we can organize a processing "party" some time. Do you use a cone?

I could meet you in Auburn so the eggs wouldn't have to be shipped if you would like some dark eggs for the NYD hatch. I should be able to come up with some golden cuckoo Marans eggs for you. I collected 12 (I get one or 2 each day) took a little less than a week. Set them and all 12 grew and are due to hatch Thursday. If you are interested just PM me

Were you looking at Uruch's price list?? They do have all of those.
What? They charge for them?

I kind of just did a Google and came up on a strange website but it had that name on it and a list of breeds but I didn't find the cost.

Just call it tenderizing, not animal abuse.

Well don't get rid of her or eat her! lol There are any number of us here that would take her even if her tail isn't just right!
