OK in the seemingly never ending saga of "what the heck is this???" AKA "Why won't tommysgirl admit this is a cockerel?" I submit the 8 week three day pic of the SPW chick that I am still hoping is a pullet, Your thoughts are as always appreciated but if you tell me this is a cockerel expect that I will take new pictures weekly until this bird lays an egg or crows. The hatchmate is darker pink and has more developed wattles.

He is very nice looking though!

sigh....that's what the breeder who sold the stock to my breeder said when he saw the pics

But he offered to send me some freebie hatching eggs this spring so there is hope!

Thanks Ron. They are pretty boys aren't they and I am conceding defeat.

Well crap!
I think we lost one of my jubilees yesterday. My guess is the bobcat is back early due to the lack of prey. We are leaving for So cal today ( my dad had an operation so it is christmas at his place) so everyone will be on lockdown till after xmas. But I might have to extend it for the free ranger for another week. THEY are gonna be ****** at me.

About 2 hrs after I found her gone someone offered us a rooster to go with them too ;/
This is not my week. Hopefully thats the last of it, I don't want a ticket driving to so cal.
Ah, so sorry - dang predators. Have a safe trip and a Merry Christmas!

Quote: Having welsummers that can lay solid one day and speckled the next, speckling can and does change. If you want to see if they are from the same pullet, compare the shape of the egg. Color, tint and speckles can change - shape usually doesn't change as much. (except for the occasional pullet bullets)

He's all boy.

I thought Beifelders where super pricy?
I keep seeing them go cheap on ebay
they are coming down as more people have them. All the gff chickens do that since they sell a LOT and people want to make thier money back. I am still hoping the person who I negoiated beibs with will come through...

Is there one there again?

Yes, the price will come down quickly--the more productive the breed the faster too. One or two Generations from GFF Will do it. If GFF sells them for 1000 then people sell the second for 500. GFF lowers their price so then people with them lower their price. Eventually GFF sells them for 50 and people with them sell them for 25. Hatching eggs then go for 50 per dozen. Eventually GFF quits selling them and moves on to another Breed, like the all black one now.

It is the free market in action!
