California - Northern

Thanks for posting about feathered legs!

Take pictures of them for us.
Definitely will take lots of pics! Last year, I was hit suddenly with a virus while at the show. I felt fine when we got there and had no voice left by noon. It is hard to be around a bunch of chicken lovers when you can't say a word! We left for home early.

I'm doing my best to stay healthy this year so I can enjoy the whole experience!

We are picking up A wine club shipment from St amat!
Oops I didn't quote.
That's what we are doing in lodi

Question about the chicken show in Stockton this weekend. The website says space is available mostly for exhibitors only. I would love to attend, but I don't want to make the trip down the hill only to be turned away. Can a random chicken newbie wander around at this show?

Hello all,
Many of you are aware of our family deal. I just found out that I will have out-of-state company through Feb. 1st. No chicken show for me

Okay, a slight exaggeration but I WAS looking forward to it.

Anyway. I can't put my last few chicks in the broody house because it needs to be emptied and sanitized. A while ago I brought home some sick chicks that are almost 6 weeks now and slow to feather out! I can't use the broody house until those chicks are gone and I clean it really good. The chicks are now healthy but I don't know what germs are in that little house. I don't want to put more chicks in there that might not have the immune system to fight off whatever is there.

That means I have the last 5 Mille Fleur Leghorns in the house! They are 3 weeks old now. I think it is 3 girls and 2 boys. The combs start developing really fast. Anyway, I'm trying to get rid of them before company comes. Not everyone is as relaxed about chicks in the house as we are.

I know this forum is not the place to sell things. I just can't figure out the classifieds section. Really, I don't have the time to keep messing with it either.

So I'm selling these chicks as a group. If a person can't have roosters, they'll just have to get rid of them when they start crowing. Sell them to someone who'll put them in a pot, I don't care. Please pass the word the we have these chicks - I'd love to get rid of them!

Thanks all!

It should not matter. The Amelias that I have were CL Cock Bird over Crele Penedesenca Hens.
thanks Ron but what's an Amelia?

I have some U of A Blue's coming this spring and also some Norwegian Jaerhon's that lay white eggs and are autosexing.  Thinking that may make an interesting cross.
Please give more info/details about placing extra roos in another pen.  Can it be close to the hens or not???
I've heard they're supposed to be further away so they don't see hens and fight each other. Never tried it before, but that's the plan. Hopefully "the plan" will be how it turns out

the only thing with keeping pure Legbars in there with the Crele Penedesenca is the roosters look close and you don't want to keep a breeder that is not pure .Now if you have a separate run thats one thing. Just make sure to hatch them separately
so the pics of the penedesencas looked ALOT like CL. But didn't you have some black ones too? Sorry I can't remember. What if I had another color not so similar to CL's. Would they look much different then? And is it just the males that are hard to distinguish at hatch or pullets too?

Amelia is what we call the Cream Legbar X Crele Penedesenca Olive Egg Laying chicks. They like to fly!

Looking for ways to keep a rooster without keeping him with the flock. If I built a wire pen inside the main run where he would mostly live by himself but surrounded by other chickens, would he thrive? Would be keeping him for breeding.

Basically folks.....just don't use "Roo" when referring to a male chicken at the show........ Rooster is fine.

Walt
thank you Walt :) I think that will make a lot of us feel more comfortable at the show.
