If he's already drawing blood when mating it's time to separate him from the girls and allow them to heal and re-feather if you don't you could end up having hens with staff infection (from the Roos feet putting manure into the open wounds). If you don't separate at least use the saddles and spray the hens backs with "blu-kote" to close up the wounds and prevent other birds from pecking open wounds.
I agree with this. I had a splash Langshan hen in my breeding flock at the farm. She was an easy mark who didn't run away from the boys and ended up with very deep wounds. I am only out there once every week or two and didn't catch it until the wounds were abscessed. I brought her back here in town to recover. She recovered from the infection but she has limited use of one of her legs so will remain a part of my layer flock. She is a favorite of my Pita Pinta cockerel but he has so many girls to choose from that she escapes his notice most of the time. I have seven of her eggs in the incubator right now and they are due to hatch on Friday.

I have. about half of my flock getting low on feathers on their backs so i plan om making a few saddles for them tomorrow. i have two roos in a flock of like15-16? one roo is my big RIR the other is a small appenzeller spitzhauban the second roo breeds npw and then but red is the top dog who breeds the most other then with the 4 bantams i have those are the other roos girls. either way hopefully the saddles help

Sunray is a perfect name for this boy! I can see that he is going to be spoiled much more than he currently is - it may take him a little while to get used to being cuddled by a 4 year old but I am sure he will love it!!! Is Alina coming with you on Saturday?

EE? I like to coloring on the blck and white one in the back corner. Congratulations!

There is an alternate point of view on the EEs from Hatcheries. They are, from the 1930s, Quecha!

These greatly improved stocks of the well-established Argentinian Quechua were first introduced to the United States at the World Fair in I think the 1930's Chicago and or New York. Meanwhile, Gallus inarius the progenitor of the "Araucana" was introduced to Europe and the United States as well. In the 1960's or 70's even further refined Quechua arrived in the United States and were given the name of Easter Eggers. These original Easter Eggers were the progenitors of the North American Quechua or Ameraucana as it better known.
