Beautiful!

My best friend took a class on how to AI cattle. On purpose. A "hands on" class.

I guess it's pretty common with large animals. I know they do it a lot with cattle and horses. it just was not something we were trained for in the Veterinary Technician program!

Any tips on dealing with an aggressive hen? She is horribly mean, she attacks me almost every day when I go near the coop/run. I'm about ready to feed her to the dog, honestly. She just now bit me so hard that I think I am going to have a red mark, and I was wearing thick jeans when she did it! I kicked her and she came right back and attacked me again. She once grabbed hold of my sweatshirt and wouldn't let go until I picked her up and threw her away from me. I'm sick of having to defend myself against a nasty hen. Any tips so that I don't have to kill her?

I just put her up on CL for really, really cheap and explained why. I said if nobody will take her then she'll be killed and fed to the dog. I was just hoping to avoid having to do that.

Hi BCollie,

Your Hens are young and just starting to lay? She may settle down when she settles in.

It is rare to have a mean hen. You can try picking her up but the feet and when she calms down hold her normally. If she start getting ,mean again, put her back upside down. I would try doing this once a day for 10 minutes. If not, see if you can rehome her to a different place. Often the do fine in a different flock.

Oh, a quick question. I'm looking to buy some Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, and some dark chocolate layers, maybe some EE's. But most important to me is the BLR Wyandottes. Anyone in or around the Redding or Sacramento areas(or anywhere close or inbetween) sell them?
