oh man I need to research,,,confusing lol
I called Mr. Dickey and asked for his advice. He is very nice and easy to talk to. I did not feel he tried to over sell me.

I bought the 3 automatic turning tray with hatching tray. I don't use the hatching tray to hatch but will occasionally use it to get eggs started when I have too many. I know I can eventually move the eggs up to the turning trays after I candle and remove the duds.

I recommend getting the humidity system. I think shipping was around $70 so you have to factor that in as well.

Yes. Lesson learned for sure. I would get rid if them if I could. But my daughter named them "The Spice Girls": Sugar, Cocoa and Cinnamon.

Oh no! I don't have young kids at home but I do have grandkids who visit often. My 8 year old grandson was not happy when I gave away his black hen last year. But now we have 4 BC Marans and he has no interest in them. They look too much alike and he can't really tell which one is "his".

Put a band on one of them--Use his favorite color and that one will be his!

We have a white American Bresse with a Lavender band and that one is my Middle Daughters Girl. She became attached to her when it was a little chick.

Is the humidity system just an automatic thing? If I don't get the system how does it come? Oh man I'll just have to call him haha. Thank you for your help

question: if a chick has unzipped halfway and then stopped, long enough for the feathers that are sticking out to completely dry and fluff up (i got home around 4:30, and it hasn't progressed at all since then) -- but i can still see it breathing -- any cause for worry?

What color is the membrane? If it is white, leave the chick alone. If it is clear, or brown looking, it is stuck.

Is there a reason chicks get poop stuck on their butts? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Stress causes pasty butt. It can be hatching stress or temperature stress. chicks that have a hard time hatching will often have pasty butt.

Give them plain yogurt, just a bit each morning
Chick Grit
scrambled eggs once a day

Make sure they can poop and wash carefully if not.

Are they getting cold? Temp changes can cause poop butt. Probiotics can help but diarrhea is serious in all babies so watch it.
I've read that having the temp too high with young chicks can cause poopy butt. After the first week, I keep the temp in my brooder slightly lower than the recommended temp. I had chicks with poopy butt when I had the temps higher.

If the chicks hatch easily, they do not get poopy butt with the eco glow brooders. They do very well with them.
