The hatch is officially over for my 4-H'er. She has a silkie/ORP mix from her eggs. All 4 I sent her hatched but a blrw didn't make it. She got 2 BBS ORP bantams and 1 blew to go with her mix. So glad she didn't end up with a singleton chick. Knowing her it would have been horribly spoiled!
I guess I'm a chicken Grandma now.

For spurs, I didn't feel it really helped. Did it a few times years ago. I felt the one underneath was sharper, although shorter. It came off way easier than I expected though. I felt the nails were a bigger problem for then hens backs. None of my boys ever tried to spur me
our rooster chief spurred my husband a couple times, so he took a wrench and simply twisted the spurs off. Came off like an ingrown toe tail and he didn't fuss much one bit over it. The only fuss was tryna hold the boy down. He's a mad rooster I tell you. Them game birds no fun:0

I had hopes of getting that way, the way my schedule is working out I'm working instead. Still trying to work out how to do both but it's about a 4 hour drive back from Ferndale. This really sucks, I've been planning to go for months!

Ah, man, you're the one that told me about that show in the first place! Hope it works out...

did you feel it made a difference? They are smaller but looked sharper. Never been spurred so I'm no expert on which way is best :)

tried to take some better photos of the new chicks -- it's so dark out today with the rain, hard to get enough light for clear focus -- but here they are:

two birchen marans

already looking for trouble!

splash isbar, trying to figure out how legs work

black isbar, and TINY -- it was the last to hatch

and two blue isbars, full of personality already (if not in perfect focus)
Great photo. You are an artist!

I tell my girls stuff like this all the time. I have a couple especially noisy ones. I tell them if they don't cut it out, they'll be chicken soup.

I have one especially noisy Marans too. I think she is the one that had some sort of trauma or stroke late last summer. I have to cut her some slack because of that.....

It's a project until it is close to sop and breeds true. I think the color still not gtg.
On a sadder note mario says the Puppy Bowl is filmed in october. Wth?

OMG...you guys are so Geeky. I LOVE IT!

Don't be offended. We lean toward the "cerebral" over here too.
