Quote: It seems counter-intuitive.....I would think they would be more prone to damage that way. It will be interesting to hear how it goes...
Speaking of processing... I picked up 12 baby Cornish cross today. They should be ready to process in about 6 weeks. I have one in the bunch that doesn't look like a Cornish x though. It's weird. It's all yellow, but it's small and it stands straight up on it's legs. (unlike the others, that stand "normally". I don't know if something is wrong with it, or it's not a Cornish x. I'll try and get some pics.
I am so glad for you Liz....Keep us posted.I have a pip!!!!!
I'm betting it's NOT a Cornish cross.........LOLSpeaking of processing... I picked up 12 baby Cornish cross today. They should be ready to process in about 6 weeks. It sounds like a red start cockerel. They are used as packing peanuts--extra chicks to provide warmth. If so, it will grow a lot slower.

I of course just checked for pips--Today is day 19 so there are no pips.
I swear I heard chirping though....
But it will be a great tasting boy when it does grow out.It sounds like a red start cockerel. They are used as packing peanuts--extra chicks to provide warmth. If so, it will grow a lot slower.
I did that this morning. Dumb birds outside faking me out.
I was at the feed store when they opened up the box somehow a few chicks were in the wrong quarter of the box. Light Brahma in with SLW etc. Did you get a leghorn???I got them from a feed store, so who knows..... I'll know for sure in about a week, when the CC's are 2x the size of the rest of the chicks.
