Remember how I wanted a broodie?

Well.... Somebody heard me and within a day, I had a broodie!

I also have insane MF leghorns that don't do what they are supposed to do.

I believe this one has gone broody. Or is trying to anyway. She has completed 2 whole days in this nest.

The video is of me risking my limbs to sneak in an egg and offer fresh shavings for nesting.

I do have to figure out a better spot for her but that will take a couple days of fixing.

That is a Broody for sure!

Quote: I just want the one breed! But more of them. She has a listing that says it was "bumped" 4 days ago. The last actual post was 2/22/14. . I know generally "bumped" means the offer is still valid and the OP is making it more visible by pushing it to the top of the topic. Not sure if that is the case here though.

Oh my! She is a toughy! The only thing my good brroder does is puff up a bit and make some noise. The Cochin actually pecks but not as hard as that one is! You should be getting hazard pay for tending to that one. I think you need some of those long gloves they make for pruning roses..

I have a micro silkie comming up. I could get it dna tested (it is so small I don't think it will lay eggs or crow) that is going To need a special home. No comb area to speak of signs say girl but special needs for sure.
If tommysgirl is not interested, I'd love to add your micro silkie to my flock. I love the strange, odd, runty, weird ones. I have a mottled d'uncle with feathers that look like a frizzle but are curled. It was going to die at the feed store.

Bought a new spot check. 3 minutes later mario found it on the top of the megabator. Oh the irony.
LOL! ya that's how it works. Or like the fact that I saved my original egg turner for 20 sum odd years. throw it away cause I'll "never use it". then 6 months later discover i need it. so when people ask me why i keep things so long, i tell them "as soon as I throw it away, i'll need it"

That's what I was thinking (that I would have to "off" her.)  It's pretty bad. I've tried band-aids, and ties, but it doesn't seem to help.  I can't figure out where the problem is though.  I was hoping I was wrong, and there was an easy fix.  :( .  This will be the first chick I've had to do that with.

Sorry that you have to make that hard decision Liz. I haven't had to do it myself, but when I do I'm so thankful for the kind hearted people on this thread who walk us through the hard stuff.

BIG hug.

I had to do it last weekend.

I wrapped it up in a paper towel, put him into a zip lock bag and used scissors at the neck. quickly closed the bag. It was over very quickly and the poor suffering chick was gone.

It is sad but a part of raising chickens.

Thank you for cluing us in on the least traumatic way to do that. Like you said, it's an inevitable evil of hatching. I need to be mentally prepared when it's time and not be selfish.

Heres thr other pic
The first pics look like there was a lot of liquid still inside the egg. What position were the egg-topsied chicks in? What did you keep your humidity at during incubation? Did you keep track of the air cells? The last one looked like it died some time in the second week.
