These Orp chicks are making me crazy!! Maybe I'm just not meant to have any Orps. So I only got 3/8 to hatch. Then I had the one with the freakish leg that I had to cull. #2 is the one that tried to hatch foot first, and has curled toes (and wears the little shoes), Now: I go to check on the chick after getting home from work, and #3 is laying upside down in the water dish. I thought it was dead -it looked dead. So I reached in and picked it up. When I saw that it was breathing (barely) I put it under my shirt (in my arm-pit -- it was the warmest place I could think of at the time) and went in the house to figure out what to do. While I was walking around it started peeping. So I put a clean stoneware pan in the (oven to heat it up), and got some canning jars and put hot water in them. Now she seem just fine (just a little tired), and is sitting in a warm pan, cuddled up with jars on the book shelf.

For the first18 days, 100 degrees and 35% humidity.

I love hatching eggs that have not been shipped!
Great hatch Ron!
Was wondering: have you tested your brinsea hygrometer? I got a cheap accurite from Walmart. Did the salt water test and look like my brinsea is reading 5% lower than it is. But eerily the exact same as the accurite. So i have mine at 35%. I probably shouldn't have even second guessed it. I think it worked ok before.
Just wondering if i didn't perform the salt water test right, or the accurite just isn't doing the test right. did it twice, same result

I did not test the hygrometer--Just practiced hatching a bunch last year. I did verify the temperature because that is very important for incubating.

Not all of these eggs were in the Brinsea. half of them were in an old style Genesis and I use those Glad storage containers in it to keep humidity close to 35%.

I am incubating in three incubators currently.

I tried the Glad storage container. Had a hard time fitting it in the genesis with the turner. When I put it on it's side it rolled and spilled out a few times. Have you had that problem? And do you just put in 1 for incubation and 2 of those for hatching?
