Lmao I was going to say I think we should have a battle of the chickens and everyone can fight for the favord breed. The onlookers can have chicken face paint and comb hats and yell from the sidelines.

Im sure showgirls will win.
Isn't that what happened with Jubilee Orpingtons and Speckled Sussex?

Well if we are going on looks alone...

I am more than willing to go cuckoo, wear a beak and make a general fool of myself. Are you willing to dress like a showgirl??

@ronott1 Was there a knock down drag out between SS and JO peeps? How could you tell which side they were on? It would be like the Sneetches!

There was a contest to see which breed would be the official chicken of the Diamond Jubillee for Queen Victoria.

I do have total chick envy just thought I would tell you all that. But I guess it is character building.
Join the Easter Hatch-a-long and we'll cure you of chick envy.

Question: Is it normal for a hen when she has an apron on for the first time to flop like a fish and moonwalk and generally loose all ability to move in a normal fashion? My CG girl was looking rough so I put the apron on her and she walked like she was drunk. I have her separated. Anyway just wondering if she is doing what your girls have done. Thanks
Yep, and they can walk backwards too. After a couple of days, they get used to it and walk fine.

Morning!

We did not feel it here.

But I was stupid and lost a hen last night

.

I have a silkie who seems to have recovered badly from wry neck she was very thin and seemed to have trouble eating and while she could move did not like to walk. She could not tell where anything was. I was tube feeding her last night (have been for about 5 days since I noticed something wrong) And put her back in the coop and did not lock up !

This morning there were white feathers at the window. She was the only silkie taken and I was very lucky. Im sad she died painfully But I was going to have to figure out something soon and clearly couldn't breed her.

Its been an interesting morning...
I'm so sorry.

And Ron, we did not feel the quake here.

Ohh...I didn't realize that the SS had ever been in the running. Apparently the selection committee preferred a curvier bird.

I'll wear a fluffy hat and dress like pieces of male anatomy. Go showgirls!

If, with a clear conscience I could join the Easter hatch a long I would but my husband knows me too well and did an end run on my acquisitions by getting me to agree to only hatch with a broody. I was vulnerable at the time and had just purchased a bunch of broody breed chicks plus, my first incubator hatch had gone badl. I would love to be staring into a bator waiting for pips but in my head I know that it is the right thing to do.
Part of the agreement is that I can add pullets for every adult bird I move off the place so I have that going for me :)

Now if I get a broody by the end of the month, I will be all over that thread. Maybe I should just wander over in hopes that by subscribing I will be putting broody vibes out into the universe that will get through to one or more of my girls. Isn't that what that book "The Secret." says to do?

Blanche is now wearing her super chick cape and walking around competently rather than leaping about like a Jack Russell Terrier. I have her back with the flock and she is so happy about it she decided to lay an egg. What a chicken!!!

When I checked on the hatch this afternoon, 7 more had hatched. One more is working on hatching. They will leave 4 that did not hatch out of 44 set. That is 40 chicks!

All of The OEs that I moved to the hatcher hatched!
