California - Northern

Put them in with some beans (as a side dish)... (They look like little beans to me. )
Hey chicken testicals almost won Top Chef! ( someone said it was the best dish on the show so far, lol) mario gives them as treats to his favorite animal of the day ( dog, cat chicken, turkey etc) they go INSANE for them. They vary drasticaly in size.. and hybred 1/2 silkies often either have mottled testicals or one black and one white!

More then you wanted to know about huavos..

That contact incubator is crazy! For that price I would sit on the eggs myself, my temp tends to run high anyway.

I was going to say if you have a parrot that sells for 2,000 er hatchling the difference is worth it. chickens? not so much unless they are internationally henseminated eggs!
( have I said parrot people are crazy?)
LOL on the testicle talk. when I processed my boys last weekend I was secretly pleased to see that my hybrid from my own eggs was uhherm twice as well endowed as those fancy pants SPRs. Actually he had begun to be a pain. He had gotten amorous and was a chaser. None of the girls wanted anything to do with him..even Buckbeak and she is EASY!

I am sure that no one remembers this but last spring I asked you all about my girl Dotty who had developed a bald spot from the base of her neck all the way down her breast. Well she is doing it again. She plucks them. I sat under the Spirea and took these pictures of her. One of her caught in the act. What is the deal? She has never shown any sign of going broody.
She wouldn't come out so I had to join her

If it's like last year she will end up with an ugly landing strip about 1.5 inches wide and it won't go away until her feathers grow back after her mid fall molt.

Caught in the act. Her head is upside down and sideways...
she looks itchy or like she wants more protien. mites or calf manna? Maybe look up feather picking, she could be doing it for the same reasons, but i dunno much about it.

Do you guys do anything different for hatching BCM eggs?
It depends on how dark they are, and what Im hatching with, and if they are shipped, and how big they are. They are tricksy. Chickee is supposed to be an expert! I have some sucess, but don't have enough humidity control for great precision. I'm hoping it gets better with the EXCITING NEW HUMIDITY SOLUTION!

do refrigerated, Unwashed eggs hatch well?
Some say they hatch better, they age less and the protien is supposed to degrade less. But I didnt notice a huge difference.

I wrote a HUGE spreadsheet today, becuse I have no life and someone asked me to, on the ultra mega chicken emergency cabinet. Anyone want to take a look, edit or ad?

The eggs will do better hatching if they were refrigerated with the small end up. The would still be set in the incubator with the big end up but long term or cold storage while collecting eggs works better if the small end it up.

There was a study that showed this.

My grocery store eggs did fine. I would think they would be ok, if they aren't too old. When you get shipped eggs they can get way colder than regular fridge temps.
Those were washed too!

@WendyJeepchick My 10-year-old hopes yours gets a kick out of these photos, too

(What makes you think I dug through my inbox to see whose daughter it was?

) (And yes, my daughter chose the finger-crossing smiley...)

Curry has decided she's a parrot, my daughter says.

Great Pictures!

I am keeping two of the chicks I hatched to keep a Cross beaked Delaware company. They are getting along very well. The Del is a weak older than the other two:

I kept one of the Splash UofA blues. This one is quite Spunky:

I have one of the UofA Blues X Crele Penedesencas too. The chicks has a white spot on it's head:

It is quite a poser too:

They were fairly local though. Rock Island fertile eggs, from Petaluma.

I use a double antibiotic ointment, instead of neosporin (it is a triple antibiotic). I read somewhere that the 3rd antibiotic in it causes a lot more allergic reactions. *I'll try to find out where I read that*
I also use the double antibiotic in hatching, because when you are having to assist it doesn't dry out quickly, like water would. When I'm assisting a hatch (which I told myself I wouldn't do anymore), I put it on the exposed membrane. It makes it so it won't dry out, and you can see all the veins.

So, what you're saying is I need a new bra in a larger cup size? I think my hubby would make that investment.

I'd need plastic surgery, to incubate in my bra. The poor eggs wouldn't have very much cushioning.

It is quite a poser too:

So cute, - and serious too!! I think that's her "Blue Steel" Modeling pose. - does anyone else see the resemblance?
