Thank you everyone for your help with my sick rooster, unfortunately he died this morning

so sad.
I'm so sorry, it's hard to lose them; I lost one of my old guys today.

Silkies4ever, sorry to hear that you lost a favorite boy today, age doesn't make it any easier. You added much to his late years.

Are you showing in the youth division? If your hens eye doesn't clear up and it's not illness you should still be able to use her for showmanship.

Thank you.

I am, yes. Very interesting; I sure hope I can, but I also hope she'll clear up soon. I'll keep treating her, but if anyone has any suggestions on what else to use, I'd greatly appreciate it!

This is her eye when she has it closed (sorry for the horrible photo quality, all I had was my phone),

Many of our 4-H kids have shown mix-breeds or birds with DQ's in showmanship. Our judge is looking at how you work with your bird, (a difficult bird that was coaxed to walk past the judges clipboard rather than giving up or getting upset, another year all Mariah's OEGB wanted to do was play in the shavings on the table).

Knowledge of breeds, varieties, classes, diseases, how you present yourself are all factors also. Check with others in your area to make sure, but I don't think her eye will hurt you. Even in conformation it is not that big of a deduction.

I hope it clears up but I'm sure you love and enjoy her just the way she is!

Take lots of pics and have a helper shoving them back in place!

I ended up with quite a few pics with Monet's hand in the frame.
Velcro their feet!

Kidding!..Sometimes they behave for you and sometimes they do not.

I was laying on my side to get this one:

Warning! Be prepared for cuteness overload! Here are some pics of my last hatch!

Pita Pintas (Ron, have you ever noticed that some of the chicks are yellow with black and some are white with black? It is very noticeable with this group of chicks.)

All of your chicks are so stinkin' cute!!!

I got some mixed fertile eggs from a lady in Carmichael for an incubator test hatch. I took the fan off, and added 2 extra thermometers, so hopefully this hatch will do better. Are the hatch rates
with a fan way better than still air? Should I look into getting a fan (and installing it the right way this time

) ?

The lady marked the eggs, and gave me the "possible chick genetics" list. So cool!!! So if you have a chick that is an ameraucana/ Cream Legbar mix, is it an EE?

I had a bit of a scare tonight... I'd had my older daughter check to see if all the chickens were in, and close the doors if they were. She came back in and reported that not everyone was in. I didn't worry about it, because it was still pretty light out, and the missing one was probably on her way. I went out to count heads after dusk, and there were only 4. I grabbed a flashlight, and looked all over the yard--under the shed, under and in the big cedar, and so on and so forth. I even tried to enlist the dog, not that that was any help

I was just remembering that I'd heard a bunch of excited barking earlier, that I'd identified as being in the neighbor's yard, when I spotted a closed plastic bin (the type with flaps). I'd already looked in all the logical places twice, so I figured, why not? Good thing, too, because that's where Quiche was. Turns out my younger daughter had put her in there, for which she said she was sorry. I'm just glad I found Quiche before anything else did!

Yes, when you have searched all the likely places, search the unlikely places.

I have found missing car keys in the fridge before!

I bet your daughter learned a good lesson today.
