Is oxine ok to use for eating eggs? I'm not really sure what that is.

Oxine is used in drinking water at schools and institutions regularly. I don't believe there would be any ill effects from washing or spraying eggs with it either. I use it on all my incubators and brooders. I also put it in my plastic waterers when they get a little funky.

I cooked a Dexter Pot roast on Sunday--It was very tasty!

My Family was amazed that Grass Fed Beef was so nice and tender.
We have had Dexter T Bones, Dexter Spaghetti, and Dexter Stew...@capayvalleychick Tom said "This is going to ruin us for regular beef." I hope so!!

What do you guys think on my new Silkie girl? Do you think I should get another of the girls the gal has available as a buddy or do you think that she would be happy with her chicks for company? I would prefer to not get another pullet but instead keep on from the clutch but want to do what is right.

Keeping a baby should be fine. Intergrating might be interesting!

If you want to ninja some of mine my gallon is still fairly full. Need a solid not clear container however. It lasts a looong time I got mine in may of last year and just dented it.

I sent hatching eggs to pozees in Colorado. They went by truck! and all made it fine.

That was probably me. (Vicki) Oroville is pretty close so I might go. Do you have an address?

The Orps need to go to Cheryl (Chic CAN) in Lake County. I am picking them up in Red Bluff the weekend of the show so meeting there would be perfect! That would be wonderful if you could transport them from there to Lake County! Then she wouldn't have to wait as long to get them, since I am not going to Sac until 4/10.
Yes, you! @Audio51 Just go to Table Mountain Road and you will see it. It's the frontage road to the freeway, before the turn to Chaffin Farm. I think it will be easy to find. Tell your friends! She needs to move, so has to sell a huge amount of stuff. Lots of collectables, also.

@Chic CAN I could pick up at the show and transport to the intersection of Hwys 20 & 16. Not all the way to Lake Co. but closer than I-5.

@Sewandgrow its not a pretty coop likr alot of the ones on here but it works. my chicks are 3 weeks old now when should i move them?

Pretty is very nice but not necessary. I was intimidated by the first really pretty coops I saw at someone's chicken fest years ago........... My coops are cyclone panels clipped together in various sizes & are housed under a great big carport.......My chickens don't complain..............LOL For fun I have built "cute ones" out of recycled fruit bins & miscellaneous lumber. Paint can do wonders on making "cute"

I've already been working on the hubby about the Dexters

I really look forward chatting some more at the party.
Wow, I didn't realize that you were interested in them, since you have the big cattle. Looking forward to the party, too!

Glad that you liked it. Grass fed beef can really vary from breeder to breeder. Before I had Dexters, I used to buy it from different producers and sometimes it wasn't very good. Dexter beef really has good flavor. That breed can convert grass and poor forage efficiently into marbled beef.

That is a huge selling point for the hubby. I bought some steaks a while back and did a test. I fed him both grass fed and corn fed, but didn't tell him. He chose the grass fed meat both times.
The ranch butcher that comes here always talks about the layer of fat on our Dexters' carcass and how you only see that on grain finished cattle, never grass fed. I never have told him that I never feed grain, just grass or alfalfa.

Happy to know that you are enjoying it! My DH & I have a hard time at restaurants now, because it's never as good as the meat that we have in the freezer.

I think the Silkie will be happy, alone with her chicks. That will be her entire focus during the time that she is raising them. That's JMO, I've had broodies but never Silkies.

Whoo....hoo............. I just realized I do no how to insert picture...I swear I stumbled a crossed it purely accidently. Now if I could just remember who it was that I was going to show my peach bin grow out pens to...............
