Oh my Goodness..........I am going to have to start taking notes. My brain can no way remember all this at once...!!!!!!! Then I will have to find a way to keep track of my notes. I spent 2 hors this morning at 5 a.m. wading through my stacks of paper that I bury myself in.....LOL I am going to Costco tomorrow & am going to get some birdseed to sprout & I will get the BOSS at Tractor Supply too.
The birdseed that I buy at Costco has BOSS in it. Thank you for checking on the cabinet incubator for me. I'm thinking about it.

I'm looking forward to taking a peek through it. I've read really good reviews on it and the incubator. You know, I can always bring you some eggs to put in it. Lots of little tiny Seramas to run around with those gorgeous giant birds of yours

Talk about contrast!

Now Jules,..................... you know I like BIG birds. I am getting excited about the Mottled Japanese eggs Dyann gave me though. I do like speckled birds. They are in the R Com now. I was a little concerned when I was reading up on them this morning & it said they have that lethal gene thing going on that causes about 25% of them to quit late in incubation so I don't want to get my hopes up too much. I only knew about the real Araucanas having the lethal gene & being hard to raise. I like the egg color better on my Ameraucanas so I never chanced the Araucanas. I don't need any added ways to fail, but I do think their rumpless look is quite interesting. Leann at CashBlueEggs does well with them but I think she has concentrated her efforts on them & done a well deserved good job.
I am off................I have been catching chickens all by mayself (what a good girl am I...LOL). Truth be known I have been promising to single some colored egg layers out for a repeat customer & Raymond was not answering my calls when I wanted help so I put my big girl panties on & did it myself. The fact they are penned up in a confined space might have been some help.....LOL

You are more than welcomed........just let me know or you can call & talk to them if you prefer. It is J.S. West on 9th St. in Modesto. I spoke to Heather Rose. She & her husband Anthony are at all the shows.

I have to share these here too. Hope you don't mind. Here are the Bresse I got from chiqita. They are about 4 1/2 months old now. They are filling out really nicely. They are plump little things.
I can't remember if the Bresse get a lot of breast or thigh meat. I'm thinking it's breast meat.

They are so pretty!! I think I might need to get some Breese!!

I do love the Red, White and Blue to them. Very flashy! And the hens are said to be wonderful layers of Med-Large eggs

Hi all,
Just cause I'm thinking my son is adorable right now.

He's 14 and had his first attack of love at first sight and is over the moon about the D'uccle chickens.

He wants a run with 5 of each available color
lau.gif
He says, "Mom, that's only 12 runs."

He wants to learn how to show them and become a reputable breeder of exhibition quality stock.

Mind you, he just saw them on Thursday.

I showed him BYC D'uccle thread.
He got his own account and is the "Coopcomander."
love.gif
Is he cute or what? A spin on the Duck Commander show in case you didn't get it.

I'm soooooo laughing to myself. A week ago chickens were stupid!

Since he really wants to do this, he has spent today retrofitting an old rabbit hutch and is now cutting down some of the bamboo to make a good spot for his first D'uccles.

We offered to help him get started. Said "Would you like your 8th grade graduation gift to be for us to get you set up in D'uccles with some good stock?" He is delighted with that. I am too.

Well I better go before I get caught. I'll have to have him come on and follow this thread. Another day when he can't see me talking about him

Chrissy - I too hoped that my chickens would eat black widows, but nope. One night, while closing up last summer, I saw a HUGE female black widow at beak level (from their roosts) to them inside their coop. I had to get a BIG old stick to get her out and smash her. I can deal with snakes, but I hate spiders!

That is funny and cute too! Only 12 runs...........spoken like a 14 year old with NO concept of what things cost.

I'll definitely feed them back to the hens and dogs, then. I agree, no need to waste them! I hate being wasteful, it's one of the reasons I love chickens, they eat all of our leftovers!

I read that Wazine only kills the adult worms and not the larvae and so they should be treated with a broad-spectrum wormer after 14 days, one that will kill the larvae, too. Anyone know anything about that?

If you used a worm medicine that killed the larvae yo would not need to treat at 10 days. The worms will not have laid eggs yet so you will be killing them before they can reproduce.
