Quote: finally got her to drink a little that way last night and again this morning. She was sitting this morning with eyes open which is a good sign compared to most of yesterday. still won't eat any egg and still won't drink independently, but I think she is at least progressing!
That pup is adorable! Almost as cute as your daughter.

Ron, those falls are beautiful. I'd like to see that area some day. I thought that maybe that area had burned in the Stoneyford fire. I hope everyone in Lake Co. is safe from the 2 big fires burning now,

Jeff & Deb, I'm glad that you caught your birds in time to try and help. I found another down yesterday morning and was unable to keep her alive. I was thinking of rehoming the remaining Dels but my husband has to have brown eggs.

I shouldn't be whining so much, but I can't stand this heat! Here's the forecast for my latitude/longitude:

sorry, Kim, hope for no more losses. I know the next few afternoons I have planned to be home to just help keep watch and spray everybody down. it's gonna be a long week. :-)

Alice is too cute. I love the brown splotch on her ear. And your daughter is so adorable. (If I could have been guaranteed a girl, I would have gone for a 3rd child...................BUT 3 boys would have put me in the looney bin, so I stopped)

I know what you mean. I had 2 sons then adopted my daughter.

It's the best way to view BYC on a smartphone. Well worth the $2.99

Hope everyone's chickens are still hanging in there. I'm :fl my three broodies hang in there. I'll feel better when they're done hatching and can get out of their hot spots. Should get some chicks by Wednesday. I took 6 of the later developing eggs out from under the Polish and put them under the new broody. I candled 14 of her eggs and all of them were developing! That was 1/2 of what's under her. She is such a sweety, never pecked at me once and I was digging under her. The EE girls fluff up, growl and nip at me.

Here's a pic of some 3 month olds from the last hatch. The first two are EE cockerels, I'm not sure about the Polish, at first I thought the white one was a pullet and the black was a cockerel but I'm thinking the opposite. Any guesses?

This is "Big Daddy" the daddy of all the EE's

The white Polish does look like a pullet to me.
I will check out this app, would love to get some of these pictures uploaded!!

I've got a confession to make... been doing homework on these cream legbars, and have decided I ABSOLUTELY cannot live w/out a few of these in my flock... Must. Get. Hands. On. Breeding trio!!

Wow that's a cute puppy! They grow up Soo quick! Take lots of pictures. That's one thing I wish I would have done more for my pup. I hope he loves the chickens and protects them! Cajun does lol
Heres "Cajun'"

He lays here for hours!!
He's so handsome!! Does he ever go after the birds? I had reserved myself to never leaving any dog loose on our property because the kind of dog that fit our family- weren't the kind that fit farm life. We couldn;t find a bred that was perfect for not being prey driven at all but have a high instinct AND ability to protect their family. Pits/Rotts/Dobies fit us family wise. But other breeds could have been better outside with the animals but wouldn't have fit our family if that makes sense. The pit seemed to be the best choice for us right now. Doberman pups are about $1,000. Which we didn't have lol. I take pics of everything- so people are going to get annoyed with pup pics! haha

I am looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Papa brooder will probably have them soonest. Cream Legbars are very new to the US. There are a bunch of us working on them, so later in the Fall to next Spring it will be easier to get them. My Pet Chicken will be selling them next Spring.

Got home from a few days away in the mountains, and everyone is accounted for and doing fine. PHEW! No losses from the heat.

I did gain another broody while I was gone though. (her last brood is only 12 weeks old) Ugh, 6th broody this year.
Welcome back! Terrible heat and all....

I lost a Golden Comet over night. Dead in the small coop this morning. She stopped laying last October so I expected her to die and any time after that. Kind of surprised me today. She is all packed for the Necropsy and the form is filled out and printed.

Probably a reproductive problem. She was 21 months old.
The one CL perked up super quick and I had her back outside in a few hours the other one is still fighting. I think she got a few drops
Down. Gonna
Try again now.
Go Chickens!

Kim, I will get you some Basque Chicks as soon as I can. They lay very nice brown eggs.

I am already planning my next trip to those waterfalls. First I need to contact the waterfall club I joined to see if they have tips for getting down to the pool below the falls.

I'm decided. I will wait however long I need to, I saw Greenfire Farms imported these originally. I would NEVER pay $19 for a dayold roo and $59 for a dayold hen chick....that is a little over the top for me!!
Apparently the Powers that Be have also decided I need some of these chickens. I lost a sexlink chick, an olive egger chick and a blue Marans chick over the weekend while I was gone. Came home to a single lonely and ripped up chick this morning. From what I understand my own dogs got them... but I don't see ANY feathers, guts, dead chickens(the last hen the dog got was ripped apart at the oviduct and left to rot!!) around anywhere. I'm stumped.
