Got home from a few days away in the mountains, and everyone is accounted for and doing fine. PHEW! No losses from the heat.

I did gain another broody while I was gone though. (her last brood is only 12 weeks old) Ugh, 6th broody this year.

help!? i have two cream legbar hens that are heat stroked. Just found them on my check. brought them inside, gave a bath and stuck them in crates on wet towels. can't get either to drink when I dip their beaks in water. I am worried about them needing water but also don't want to get water into lungs by trying to force it. any ideas on what i should do???
Oh no!!! I took those droppers you can get from the vet (and i save and wash the ones that came in the baby tylenols) and put a drop or two in the side of my pullets beak. I did every 30 minutes for a couple hours then hourly for a couple then around 2am I prayed and went to bed. I woke up in the morning and she was So much better. I hope hope hope yours pull thru. I'm so sorry they are down!! Excuse my typos. Sent from my iPhone.

It was like 110 here today. Gross! I turned the misters on at 1030am or so this morning and that seemed to help. We refilled their waters midday too.

No losses today. The sneezy sick chickens are doing better. And the rest of the flock are not sick at all that I can tell. So far it looks like the heat really claimed those 2 marans. Wow. I had NO idea heat could do that. That day I had forgotten to turn their misters on until past 2pm. I felt awful. And now I feel more awful because it could have been prevented. I think the 2 will pull thru though.

And say hello to Alice the pit bull pup.

It is great to hear they are getting better an no new ones are sick.

I picked up a timer for Home Depot. It comes on at 1:00 but I can only run it for 4 hours, so I have to turn it to manual for a couple more hours. It works ok so far. Of course we hit about 102 or so today. That 8 degrees can make a big difference sometimes.

I got a second egg from one of my Partridge Rocks today. Amazing little layer in the heat.

Edited to add: Pit Bull Terriers were called Nursery Dogs because they were so good with children. Looks like a great friend for your family.

Jeff, glad the one is doing better.

I have another WCB polish pullet living in my bathtub. This one hasn't sprung back as quickly. Probably because she was lying prone from the heat and the roo wouldn't leave her alone. Thought she was squatting.

That pup is adorable! Almost as cute as your daughter.

Ron, those falls are beautiful. I'd like to see that area some day. I thought that maybe that area had burned in the Stoneyford fire. I hope everyone in Lake Co. is safe from the 2 big fires burning now,

Jeff & Deb, I'm glad that you caught your birds in time to try and help. I found another down yesterday morning and was unable to keep her alive. I was thinking of rehoming the remaining Dels but my husband has to have brown eggs.

I shouldn't be whining so much, but I can't stand this heat! Here's the forecast for my latitude/longitude:
