I hate the way little chicks sleep. It always looks like they're dead.
My husband is the main care provider of the chicks/chickens, and he's constantly yelling, "hey, I think this one is gone, dear! Come check her" I've learned just to bump the cage or their brooder and they all get up...or don't :(

Oh . I've been pronouncing D'uccle wrong. I say "Cochin" Ko-Chin. Campine- Cam-pine (i think that one's wrong too). Jason's ( @Hangtown Farms ) breeds are the hardest, I have no idea where to start with those ones (Penedesenca, Empordanesa). I think we need a video with someone correctly pronouncing the names of all these breeds....

I am good at saying them and bad at expressing how too lol

I have one too. It works very well.

Make sure the batteries are fresh. I use enloop rechargeable batteries in mine.
I need a good one that can see in the dark eggs

I just stumbled upon this thread that features all kinds of cool coop ideas and inventions. I am only on page 10 but I need to go let the birds out. Looking forward to coming back to see more. Some people are soo creative and handy.

I will have to look around for those batteries.

Thanks Deann.....I have already read several pages. I love DIY projects especially if they are reuse, recycle stuff.

Costco had them--a charger and Batteries. They save a lot of money over time.

Enloop can be recharged to full capacity a lot of times and they do not loose the charge sitting.

I have switched over most of our batteries to them.

I had one literally die on me last night. I picked it up to check for pasty butt. I wiped a little off its rear end and cleaned its feet off. All of a sudden it started making a clicking sound when breathing, it spit up liquid, and died in my hands.

I have never ever had that happen before. I'm guessing that maybe it aspirated water/food that it had eaten when I tipped it forward to check its butt. Poor little Pita Pinta!

It's so sad when a chick dies! I've only lost one, thank goodness, out of the now 20 that I've brooded. I'm getting 7 more on the 7th, hopefully out of the 11 I'll have I won't lose any! Especially my Cream Legbar...or my moms Marans...or my bearded Buff Polish...or my BLR Wyandotte...I don't want to lose ANY of them! They all just need to stay alive and healthy :)
