Yes, pullet eggs will be fertile right away if they have been with a cockerel and he has been mating them. These are my new Bresse layers. The whites are really thick too. They just started laying this week so I was curious if it was fertile.
What fun...........EEs & OEs are really popular. You should have no trouble selling them if that is your plan.MF Leghorns
GL Wyandotte and
EE's off of the Brabanter and Blue Wheaten cockerel. Both kinds of EE's are ADORABLE! The Brabanter ones have the biggest muffs and beard I have ever seen!
$10 seems like a fair price to me. My Delawares all have yellow legs that are pretty dark as chicks but have lightened now. They are such good birds your customers will be happy to get them I'm sure..Before I post them on CL, would any one be interested in Delaware pullets?
They are 6 weeks old. Two have greenish legs & the rest have bright yellow legs.
They are hatchery birds (Cackle) but they are fat & healthy so far.
Two are really tame & always come up to me looking for goodies.
Not sure what to ask for them, $10? PM me if interested. Thanks!
Those Danged Marans...........they just have to be difficult don't they??? Another breeder was over this morning & just had the same problem with some Marans she was hatching.......I use the manna sometimes.throw some out with scratch.
Got really good fertility. 37 out of 42 were good. Out of 37, 31 made it. 6 were fully formed Marans that just didn't pip
Ugh... The bad chick morning got worse. When I bought these eggs (they are mixes from a lady in Carmichael), I bought a dozen. I gave 6 to my mom for her broodie, and I put the other 6 in the 'bator. This was her first time hatching, and I kinda' talked her into it. My mom called this morning, super excited, because she could hear peeping. She called a couple hour later and told me they all were dead. I guess one of the other hen got into the nesting box, and between the two hen the babies must have gotten smothered. I felt so awful. She took the chicks in the house and tried to help them, but it was too late.![]()
I had another one after the first hatch, but the other died (probably some time last night/ today. They all had lots of yellow liquid in the egg. One had pipped, and the other 3 did not. I'm thinking it must be a problem with my incubator, because the chicks with the broodie weren't sticky at all. I kept the humidity between 20%-30% and it was at 65% during lock down. One of the chicks I egg-topsied was seriously deformed. I was missing everything (on it's head) from the bottom of it's beak up. I've never seen anything like it. I'm surprised it survived as long as it did (in the egg). It was moving around last night.
I think I need to console myself with a quick trip to the feed store.Or does anyone close have new chicks. I have a big ol' brooder set up, and only 2 chicks to put in it.![]()
So sorry that this happened! I'm heading through Sac to Placerville on Sunday morning. I have newly hatched Pita Pintas and Pita Pinta mixes. Some of the mixes are Pita Pinta/Cream Legbar mixes that will lay green eggs if they are girls.Ugh... The bad chick morning got worse.
