Ugh... The bad chick morning got worse. When I bought these eggs (they are mixes from a lady in Carmichael), I bought a dozen. I gave 6 to my mom for her broodie, and I put the other 6 in the 'bator. This was her first time hatching, and I kinda' talked her into it. My mom called this morning, super excited, because she could hear peeping. She called a couple hour later and told me they all were dead. I guess one of the other hen got into the nesting box, and between the two hen the babies must have gotten smothered. I felt so awful. She took the chicks in the house and tried to help them, but it was too late.

I had another one after the first hatch, but the other died (probably some time last night/ today. They all had lots of yellow liquid in the egg. One had pipped, and the other 3 did not. I'm thinking it must be a problem with my incubator, because the chicks with the broodie weren't sticky at all. I kept the humidity between 20%-30% and it was at 65% during lock down. One of the chicks I egg-topsied was seriously deformed. I was missing everything (on it's head) from the bottom of it's beak up. I've never seen anything like it. I'm surprised it survived as long as it did (in the egg). It was moving around last night.

I think I need to console myself with a quick trip to the feed store.

Or does anyone close have new chicks. I have a big ol' brooder set up, and only 2 chicks to put in it.

I do not remember what your incubator is. The yellow liquid is egg yolk that did not absorb. That could be because of too low of an average temperature during the first 18 days.

The deformed chick had nothing to do with incubation. I can't remember off the top of my head which one but one of the worm medicines will cause deformed chicks. I think Ivermectin is ok so it is likely one of the others. The other cause would be poor genetics like inbreeding or just a bad combination of the parents.

Don't get eggs from her again and sterilize the incubator thoroughly. Bacteria can also cause the egg yolk problems that you saw.

Beautiful older wooden Georgia Quail Farm Incubator. I love the wooden incubators. I have two others that I use every day. This incubator has been lovingly and sympathetically restored. I have added a new 3 prong electrical cord, new turner motor and turner timer switch. I have replaced worn plywood and trim pieces, replaced all the weather stripping between each piece of plywood and painted the box to match original color.

This incubator works like new. It heats up and holds temp beautifully. It will give you years of beautifully hatched chicks. It is a 3 turning tray incubator and 1 tray hatcher with lid. I will include the pink egg trays that allow you to incubate 288 chicken eggs.

Soooooo sorry. What an ordeal for both you & your Mom.

I hot up an hour so having a rare stomach attack. My cat seemed to think this was a rare oppurtunity where I was going to make her some sort of ham/crab/butter sandwich with a chaser of fresh chocken livers and gonads. While I was heaving up everything I have ever eaten and gas all the way down my colin she jumped on the toilet and eagerly stuck her face in mine (quite the feat given the circumstances) crying her haapy joy food cries and all I could think to do was tell her this was not the time on sprokets when we dance.

She was crushed and confused. Sorry cat....

It's the hova bator 1602N. This was my hatch without the fan. I'll re-install the fan - the right way this time - and see if that helps. That is really interesting, about the wormer. She was worming all of her chickens, when I bought the eggs. She said that she couldn't sell them for eating (her usual business), but her vet said that the wormer wouldn't effect them for hatching.
