I wanted to share couple of photos of the eggs some of my hens lay; or, I should say: they gift me with. I do not breed for egg color; the color palette and the patterns were a delightful surprise. The small ones are Ko Shamo eggs; which they lay surprisingly large eggs for their tiny size. I took the photos under different natural light so to give a better view.

Beautiful! Did you enter the EHAL egg contest?

So if anyone in the San Jose are has a broody hen they want to get rid of, I can sure use one. Even if she don't lay, if she's good for broodin and you're done with her I'd love to take her in, just message me. This classified add thing isn't working for me. I'm more for personality than looks in a hen so don't worry about that. Thanks and great day!

It's always nice to get a colorful egg basket. Beautiful!

While I was gone I started getting my first OE. They were from Araucana hens covered by a BCM roo.

@casportpony I am sorry, I had to google that. We had a boxer with liver cancer and took her to the vet for draining...what did you do for your hen?

@lizanne good luck!

@debs_flock congratulations I hope you get a trio!!!

So my new girl bailed on the eggs. I think that is better for her. She drank a bunch yesterday ate a bit and pooed. She met my H who said she is "very cute"...she is she is bearded and only slightly crested her head is black and her body is silver grey. She is calm but I can tell she is not comfortable yet. I will keep giving her treats and talking sweet.

Now about getting her a friend....

My son may be coming up in a week and if he is I might ask him to pick up the other silkie girl that was at the KOA with her
or
Maybe she will accept and raise a couple of Petunia's chicks if I give them to her..this would be the perfect solution for our situation
or
I have a friend who has a 15 w/o Australorp I can have.

Thoughts??

About a 14 months ago I noticed she was walking like a penguin, so I drained some fluid and made her more comfy. Only had to drain her a couple more times, but just recently she took a serious turn for the worse and palpation revealed a large abdominal mass, most likely egg related. I will be doing a necropsy on her today and will have pictures if anyone is interested.

So many things can cause ascites, fatty liver, cancers, EYP/internal laying and maybe some other things, but those are what I have seen here.

Chicken hen.

What is an LDP, lol?

Too many ducks here to roundup and put in a pen, so no chance I can do that.

I have noticed that sometimes they don't start sitting for real for awhile, but have no idea why. How long has she been doing this?

I think it should be LGD, or Livestock Guardian Dog:

I'm just sticking my nose in (as a LPD owner), but it means Livestock Protection Dog. There are lots of different breeds, we had an Akbash. More commonly you'll see something like a Great Pyrenees or Anatolian Shepherd.
Don't have one of those, but I do have a heeler that will wake me when the birds are upset. I'll open the door and she goes running out and usually picks up their scent. So far, just her bursting out the door has been enough to scare them away. We're a one dog family, so no more dogs for us, lol. I'm hoping that with the recent rains they'll go back to the hills... Been here for three years and this is the first time I've seen anything other than skunks and opossums.
