The most bizzare thing. Woke up to chicken screams in the night. No hurt or missing chickens. Mario thinks a mouse might have been after princess ff eggs or the bobcat shook the cage. Im shot with adrenaline and and relief. No idea what happened! !
Glad whatever it was went away hungry. Mine will do that when the neighbors cats come looking for rodents or whatever.

It's a nightly thing for me now since the foxes and coyotes have figured out where dinner is. We have a 5' chain link fence, but they just go over it. Chickens, turkeys and peafowl are safe, but the ducks free range.

Glad your animals are okay!

Kathy we covered our duck cage with a kennel cover because of the bobcats. Any chance you can cover a sleeping area for them?

Also have you ever had a scovie mummy? 2 (also known as dr crusher twah and jojo) is guarding and sleeping on her eggs but not on them during the day. I have no idea if they will survive this behavior or not. Is it normal? All the ducks go to look at the new nest daily and seem pleased so I have no clue.

The turkey is happy on her duck eggs..

is this what you call a quitter egg? It's day 18. Nothing like this one here. Should I continue to let the broody hen hatch it or pull it and toss it? Saturday is day 20.

Well, I was going to respond on the eggs, but I see it's been well answered. Quitter and good.

The second set of eggs that DH set while I was gone have started to hatch. So far 3 Jubilee Orps, 1 Chocolate Orp, 2 Tolbunt Polish, 1 Blue Cochin and 1 Black Cochin. There is a New Hampshire and another Cochin pipped so far. All LF. At least he has good taste in what to hatch, LOL He just set eggs out of the pens where he likes the birds.

I also did some candling last night. I know, WAY too early, it was only day three but I couldn't wait for a first peek.

Three of the five Ayam Cemani eggs have obvious veining!!!!!

The man has good taste!
Here's hoping that day 7 gives you 5 with veins. They are impressive looking birds.

@casportpony I am sorry, I had to google that. We had a boxer with liver cancer and took her to the vet for draining...what did you do for your hen?

@lizanne good luck!

@debs_flock congratulations I hope you get a trio!!!

So my new girl bailed on the eggs. I think that is better for her. She drank a bunch yesterday ate a bit and pooed. She met my H who said she is "very cute"...she is she is bearded and only slightly crested her head is black and her body is silver grey. She is calm but I can tell she is not comfortable yet. I will keep giving her treats and talking sweet.

Now about getting her a friend....

My son may be coming up in a week and if he is I might ask him to pick up the other silkie girl that was at the KOA with her
or
Maybe she will accept and raise a couple of Petunia's chicks if I give them to her..this would be the perfect solution for our situation
or
I have a friend who has a 15 w/o Australorp I can have.

Thoughts??
