P.S. I bought spiral plastic leg bands for them and hate them! They dig into their legs and they're hard to take off. I won't ever use again and wanted to let you guys know my experience just in case you are looking at leg bands!

chicks are adorable, I can see debi did an awesome job taking care of them!

As far as the bands are concerned, I use only now orthodontic bands on the chicks, they are super easy to put on the chicks. I think I googled it and got them on ebay, I got a whole bunch of sizes, but I think the 2nd size up from smallest works for chicks, let me see if I can find the link

here is the link to size 4 bands, I'm pretty sure these are the size, but take a look at the sellers other items, they have size 3,4,5,6 - as they are pretty inexpensive, I would suggest ordering a few different sizes.

Ron you should check out the Penedesenca thread. hardly any action but Elias crossed a Crele Penedesenca with a white Emp.
offspring are pretty nice. he is going to breed them back to the white emp

WOW!! Woke up this morning to thunder and lighting. where did that come from? getting ready for morning chores and check on the babies i have under lights. in the heat this week they have been in the chick nursery under the trees to help stay cool. Looking out the window they all look fine. Crazy weather we are having

it has been strange. it is cloudy here no rain but wondering if I should run out and move the food.
We have had more rain from Thunderstorms this summer than really any I can ever remember. A few weeks back we had 3 big storms roll over us through the night and had alot of rain.
I know there were three because that is how many times that night my 85 pound scared lab jumped on me that night.

Good Morning Norther CA!

The Temperatures are going down! The 10 day weather for Woodland shows 95 today and tomorrow and 92 to 93 for next week.

Hopefully the hens will pick up with their laying soon.

I got the report back on my hen Yin. He died from reproductive cancer. She stopped laying last October so probably had Mareks then and now the Cancer. I am watching to see how the others do. Yin came from a guy in Folsom so I do not know if he inoculated them for Mareks.

I am looking forward to cooler temps. I am going to get the hen house cleaned out today and add some roses and lavendar in the boxes and hope that will help and jwith cooler temps i would like to get 20+ eggs a day back. Better get off my computer now. be back after work is all done. LOLL
