Can someone here point me in the direction of someone who breeds/sells rose-combed Rhode Island Whites? Locally would be great, but I'd also take hatchery. So far I've only found Cackle carrying RIWs, and they're single-combed.

I have some rose comb riRs coming in egg form waiting on fertility comf. Of course rose combs are less fertile so who knows what I will get.

Ok, here's some pics. Mom kept trying to hide them. The first 2 will be Ron's penedesenca/UofA cross, and UofA blue, and CL's (girls right??)
The yellow pic was a big surprise. Supposed to be Lav AM/blue Marans cross BUT it came out yellow with 3 tiny, tiny black dots. So it must have been my hatchery bird . She was "supposed" to be a white AM, but can from a feed store. She is all white, but hatchery stock. I can only assume I grabbed the wrong egg because the Lav am cross is giving me black and blue chicks. I don't believe white is possible, unless the Marans threw out a white gene. Don't even know if that's possible, but I read of the odd white Marans chicks out there. The feathered legs tell me the Marans is the daddy

I used to have white French Marans that I had gotten eggs from SubstainableYieldPoultry in Arnold. She got her stock from an old neighbor who had brought them down with them when they moved from Canada. I think she said they were originally sports from the Marans, but I can't remember for sure & she has kind of dropped off the boards. I should give her a call.

First pea egg of the season!

Yeah Kathy......I used to have peacocks.... a couple of times in fact in the .past 35 years. A big bad fire that took the whole 150 ' by 40' shop took all my first ones, but the peahen hatched a clutch 3 or 4 if I remember right all girls....LOL
Those are blue wheaten Ameraucana chicks from my flock. 3 pullets, 1 cockerel. BW pullets are cream colored with blue tails and wing bows and the cockerels are blue with gold.

Such nice looking birds. I had Blue Wheaten AMs at one time & they laid my very best "blue" egg.

Your chicks are adorable! Aww..the white one with black dots is a special baby..

Quote: Thank you! I have the previous photos of the chicks in my profile Ameraucana album. Thank you to Chickee for posting their parents' photos; they are simply beautiful. Yes, I love the blue wheaten colour as well : ) so striking..

Skipping ahead to share hatching news:

Norma is 7 for 8 and the 8th is pipped and chirping! I thought I gave her mostly CA Grey eggs but I obviously gave her more Dorking egg than I thought. She has hatched 3. They are beautiful little sex links red and yellow chipmunks. I think the red are the little girls. Got 4 black sex link babies too. two girls who are very gorgeous mottled black and red and the boys are black with a head spot. Not sure about the little guy in the shell though.

The bantams also appear to be sex linked...4 are silver and 4 are gold all are totally adorable!!! I am going to ask on the sex link thread who would be what.

Jamie Lee was apparently so devoted to Petunia and her eggs that when I put the little family in a dog crate for safety and bonding time, Jamie Lee left her nest to go hang out on the ground next to the crate. I caught her and locked her in the coop. After she had settled in on the nest again I gave her 8 Delaware eggs.

that her little foray was a sign that she wanted chicks and that she will stick to these eggs so she can get her own.

I really like that right now we are hatching our own eggs. I can not get over the cuteness. I will try to get pics soon but am having Easter lunch here tomorrow after Mass so probably it will be after that.

They are seriously darling and robust little things. I am in love with the NH/Dels in particular

Happy Easter to all who celebrate. Glorious spring to everyone else!

Sorry for the totally self-involved post. I am going to go look at what you all have going on now.

Yes although I don't know if she's going in the nest box daily. Wednesday I saw her in there and was in there for like an hour. I heard an egg song so I went outside. The flock was in the garden singing back up and Ellie was on the roost in the coop singing the song. I looked in the box and she had been sitting on two Wyandotte eggs and an OE egg. So she faking. I've never seen her do that before.
Did you see the eggs before she went in? Is it possible she laid the green egg?
