This is a queston for anyone in 4-H
On the awareness dqy application it say club:_____ what is the club im confused and for thr 4-H showmanship (not meaning the fair) would 4 month old birds be to young to show?
It has been while since my kids were in 4-H, but back then the "Club" was your local group. The one here is "Pine Ridge 4-H"

Here are my two rescue girls Gracie Bell and Julie: I think they are both silkie cochin crosses.

Are these the ones from the petting zoo...that you tried to move with the eggs? They are beautiful!

Petaluma KOA. They have a petting farm and are getting rid of the chicken portion of it. Am I right about their mix. I thought Gracie Belle was a pure silkie until I saw how much she looks like Julie and you only get a sizzle with a cross right?
Where did you rescue these girls?? They look exactly like two hens I owned awhile back....

oh believe me, this was very hands-on! i'm glad to have had some guidance beyond just videos -- there's a huge difference between watching and DOing in this case, at least for me. i'd have been afraid to screw something up if i'd just started in on my own! but Deann was a great instructor -- she's come a long way since first learning this herself!

What's a good way to cut the cost of feed down?

Is if true you can buy feed in bulk for less $$$?

If so, is anyone near sac interested?

Fermenting the feed works well--just keep in mind the first time that feed swells. A lot. I put a bit much into my container, and had to get another container to scoop what would've been the overflow into before I even got all the feed wet

It ended up doubling in bulk. Just like it was grain or something

Also, if you've one container you're not scooping anything from, stir it--I had to dump a whole container because there was mold growing on top of the water.

Hi all! I have been really busy with work recently, and am far behind in reading this thread. But I realized I meant to invite you to an open house (coop?) that I am hosting:

My pet girls are one year old! So we are having a Chicken Birthday Party!

Come wish Rosie, Elanor, Violet, Mary, Edith, and Sybil a happy birthday.
We will have a potluck brunch and watch the chickens play!

Saturday, 26 April 2014, 11am to 3pm.
Sunnyvale (PM me if you want to come)

I meant to take some pictures of them this past weekend, but didn't get around to it.
Here are their albums:
